i'm sure there's a way of making Steve Martin the answer to those four too, but I just can't do it.
Bowfinger - movie producer.
Muppet Movie - played himself, and he Is an author too (that cheating?) Smile
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels - cons women out of their riches...kinda like thieving...
Sgt Bilko - plays a sergent, which is kinda like a cop.....

aw heck, now i know why i'm only 'Just Hatched'

Can anyone think of a movie in which Sean Connery was a movie producer, or Robert Deniro was an author? Laughing

Hiama: Are you looking for a star or a supporting player? This is a toughie.

Ok, I think it's time we consolidated our efforts. Here are movie producers I've thought of so far:

Bob Balaban in Gosford Park
Paul Giamatti in Big Fat Liar
Marcello Mastroianni in 8 1/2
Kevin Spacey in Swimming with Sharks
Dustin Hoffman in Wag the Dog

Raggedy - I'll think about your DeNiro/Connery question.

Sounds really good, Max.

I thought of another one.

Peter O'Toole

Author - Fairytale: A True Story - Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Movie Producer - The Stunt Man

Policeman - The Day They Robbed the Bank of England - I think he was a Police Captain
or
he was the voice of Sherlock Holmes in a bunch

Thief - How To Steal a Million

Hiama: I don't think The United States of Leland has played in my part of the U.S. yet. (Eastern United States). I wouldn't have figured this question out in a million years. Laughing

But Mac got the movie producer part right so let's dub her the winner. Very Happy

Ok sorry , I need to learn the etiquette about limited realease pictures, it was on imdb.com so I figured you guys would find it, you are so tenacious ( nice word).

I hereby dub Mac the winner and I bestow upon her the hono(u)r-In the UK we spell it with a "U", of the grand order of the movie quiz something in common to be held in perpetuity or until someone else guesses her question, which will no doubt follow tout de suite
