Yep. The movies have something in common. I'll throw Ethan Hawke in here for good measure.

They were all in movies that were based on Dickens novels:

Colman: A Tale of Two Cities

Fields: David Copperfield

Finney: Scrooge

Mills: Great Expectations (1946 version)

Guinness: Great Expectations (1946) and Little Dorrit

Ethan Hawke: Great Expectations (1998 version)

You got it Bree. Give us an easy one. Very Happy

BTW, they're reviving NINE on Broadway (the Raul Julia musical based on Fellini's 8 1/2, but you probably knew that anyway) I have the CD and like several of the songs, particularly Raul Julia performing "The Bells of St. Sebastian".

I hope this one's easy, Raggedy, but as I always say, easy is in the eye of the beholder. The common theme is similar to the one in the last question.

Margaret Rutherford
Fredric March
John Mills
Jeanette MacDonald

By the way, I never saw Nine when it was originally done on Broadway, and am completely unfamiliar with the score. I'm on the fence about whether to see the revival (which stars Antonio Banderas), but the fact that you like the songs may push me over into buying a ticket.

They all were in films based on Noel Coward plays.

Margaret Rutherford - Blithe Spirit
Fredric March - Design for Living
John Mills - This Happy Breed
Jeanette MacDonald - Bitter Sweet

I couldn't think of one for Fredric March. I was going to say In Which We Serve for John Mills.(written, scored and directed by Noel Coward).
Good job, Mac.

Bree: I don't think Banderas will compare to Raul Julia. But he is good to look at. Laughing Nine did win a Tony in 1982.

Raggedy, I thought of In Which We Serve first for John Mills, but then I realized that it wasn't based on a stage play, so -- knowing how strict you guys are -- I looked around to make sure he was in another movie that was actually based on a play by Noel Coward.

Laughing Bree. I'm laughing about "strict". Have you forgotten our candy bar thread so soon? I was still wading through all the wonderful movies Fredric March appeared in while Mac was responding. She always beats me to the punch.
