Here's a quote from a NYTimes article:

"He was less nonchalant, though, when he talked about preparing for the part of Fredrik Egerman in the Sondheim musical. "I arrived in New York slightly with my heart in my stomach," said Mr. Irons, who is not known for his lyric voice. "It's not easy stuff, but I think I'll be able to get through it.

"I always say, I hope I sing as well as Rex Harrison," he added, referring to the British star who decades earlier had famously talked his way through the role of Henry Higgins in "My Fair Lady." "

I vaguely remember him "doing a Rex Harrison" as "Scar" in The Lion King. We'll have to follow up on this one. Laughing

Mac: I just saw your post about Claire Bloom playing Desiree. Claire Bloom is 72 years old. Irons is 55.

Raggedy, I'm so glad you mentioned that Jeremy Irons had a big fat moustache when you saw him on The View, because it cleared up something I'd been wondering about. One day last week, I saw a guy who looked a lot like Jeremy Irons on the subway as I was on my way home from work. I didn't really think Jeremy Irons would be riding the subway, but the train did go to the Lincoln Center stop, so if he were staying downtown, it was the train he would take to get to a rehearsal at Lincoln Center. However, the guy I saw had a full beard, so it was probably just a Jeremy Irons look-alike.

Claire Bloom is playing Madame Armfeldt, and Juliet Stevenson is Desiree. I thought I had read that Kate Burton was going to be Charlotte, but when I looked at the City Opera's website just now, it lists Michelle Pawk (who was so good earlier this season as Carol Burnett's mother in Hollywood Arms) in the role. I'm seeing it on the 12th, so I'll let you know how it is.

Bree: Jeremy didn't have a beard -just a bushy mustache. But, maybe he shaved the beard. Oh, you are so fortunate. I can't wait to hear what you think about the show. I had forgotten all about Claire Bloom, but you are probably aware of what she's doing now. I'm most familiar with Juliet Stevenson for her role in Truly, Madly, Deeply. Jeremy was quite the gentleman on The View today.

Mac: I just started working on your question, (I didn't see it until a little while ago), but now I'm stumped. Are you looking for the same word in a title or something else? Confused
