Did Any Government Officials and/or Academics contemporaneously warn about the policies that ultimately caused the mortgage meltdown?

Thank you for this link. I missed that post originally. It's really interesting to see what this guy thinks about our current situation, the GM bailout, the housing market bailout, the Citigroup deal. I'm thinking we should listen to this guy a little more.
