@ehBeth,
ehBeth,

That is enlightening

I do hope your puppies keep you warm at night. They must like the snow and the cold. But, the warmth that they get when they are with you makes up for the cold they get outdoors........... Stay under those quilts and stuff.

@Stradee,
A zillion?? That's what I worry about. The Mayans, who perfected the world's most accurate calendar over 1500 years ago said that in the year 2012 the world would come to an end. Well, about six years ago, the only people we on this earth had looking at things coming at us at that speed were about six people. The joke was that more people worked at McDonalds than were looking at things in space that may hit and destroy us.

Since then we have more people looking out at things in space which may hit our planet. Yet, if it happens that we are in the line of a "zillion" mph rock - what would we do?? I think I would go outside and look up at it and be in awe. With my Patti of course. What the H else could one do?

In the mean time, we have saved another tree that will be disintegrated if the Mayans are right.

Hang in there folks.

Big smile to the end, might as well enjoy what ever time is left.

@danon5,
Oh, the Mayans gave the date as December 21, 2012.

I never did understand how they got the date - Well, my Patti and I are going to celebrate Christmas early that year - just in case.

@danon5,
On a more positive note, Dan. If a comet does hit 12/21/12, you can bet there won't be much warning from media or government agencies, and we'll all toast in about a second.

However, i haven't heard a word from any of the worlds greatest phychics about the year 1212. There is mention of the year 2050 though.

The thing is, we have no idea when the so called 'end of days' will arrive, and that's ok with me.

It was another fine full moon. Apparently big doings in the sky could be visible on the U.S. west coast.

From Oceana

Great news! Thanks in part to the nearly 10,000 of you who took action for the Arctic, last Thursday was a historic day for the oceans. Facing dramatic evidence of climate change in the Arctic, a federal fishery panel voted unanimously to prevent the expansion of industrial fishing into all U.S. waters north of the Bering Strait. There are no large-scale commercial fisheries currently operating in the U.S. Arctic, and now there won't be.

The panel's decision marks one of the largest precautionary measures in fisheries history, and a satisfying milestone after more than two years of hard work.

As climate change melts Arctic sea ice, commercial fishing in the region seemed inevitable, but not anymore. Nearly 200,000 square miles - that's bigger than California - of pristine Arctic waters will remain that way unless and until science shows that commercial fishing would not threaten the health of Arctic ecosystems or the subsistence way of life critical to indigenous peoples.

The National Marine Fisheries Service is expected to approve the Council's decision and issue final regulations later this year. And once the Obama Administration approves it, the United States will become a leader in Arctic conservation.

Thank you again for taking action for the Arctic. Last week's victory proves that it can -- and does -- make a difference.

@danon5,
Isn't that marvelous news!

I believe the ban on fishing the protected arctic area applies to all nations.

Japans in the business of pushing giant squid sales. {good grief} It appears their whaling days are numbered - and after the entire planet views "The Cove" Japan will have a very difficult time explaining 'scientific' dolphin kills to an international court.
