Some animals mate for life and this is not too much of an unreasonable request for a human to ask for out of life. True it may not come but will it be for a lack of faith, believing, societal roadblocks or because that so many failures caused one to give up.

I will never say give up but I will say that it may be up to you to make it happen but only to a degree because I do not know the extent of our control in our relationships!

Let me share some of my so called paradise with you.

I love my wife but we have our problems! hopefully nothing that we can not solve.

We have been married 27 years and the physical attraction was what connected us at the beginning along with moral similarities!
After being physical attracted for many years we grew apart a little bit at the least.

What had happen was I discovered how different that we are mentally. I love my wife but I have to love her in a different light than what I started to.

If you have a child and he thinks of things very much different than you do would you disown him or her? I would not think so because this would not be true love. This is the same kind of love that I think we have to give to our soul mates as well!

Some primates mate for life, some don't. Gibbon apes mate for life. Orangutans, gorillas, and chimpanzees generally don't!
I wonder if this could be the case for some humans as well.

Not to totally derail this thought but RL, what do you think is the essence of the survival instinct?

@RexRed,
I am not sure if there is just one simple answer to that question.
I enjoy questions like that because they make me question things and research them!

What is your answer to your question?

Charles Darwin said:
“The very essence of instinct is that it's followed independently of reason.”
“It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is the most adaptable to change.”

Yeah!!--and minds that have been singed by a hot iron are more powerful and determined than those that have been cossetted and pampered and have been habituated to get a lot of little presents on their birfday and flattered out of all proportion to their abilities.

And evolution has confirmed such a superiority over simple and unoriginal fashions and fads by its survival over 2000 years.

And here we are being enjoined to lower our standards. Sheesh!!!

Spendius you can be as rigid as you like but I am not sure if that is going to be helpful in a relationship.

When I used the word standards I was meaning it in the context of having expectations in a relationship. Do you think that our standards of expectation can be set a little high at times?

Maybe you know something about relationships that I do not.

What are your thoughts on mindsight?

@reasoning logic,
It is pointless viewing your videos for the precise reason that you have chosen them.

I do not find it odd that you would not want to confront precise reasoning!

@reasoning logic,
I sincerely hope you don't think there is any precise reasoning around here rl. I assume you simply seek the last word no matter how glib and stupid it pops out.

Make up your mind Spendius you were the one who said my reason was precise! Either it was or it wasn't or could it be both ways? Drunk

@reasoning logic,
I make an off the cuff remark meant as a joke, and the next thing you two are having a spat on the gay marriage thread. Is this a case of life imitating fiction?

@reasoning logic,
You are very precise rl in selecting videos for our education. That's why I never view them. They simply reflect your state of mind and that's not something I wish to gaze upon too often. Possibly such things have created your state of mind and it gets yo-yoing.

I once wrote a song called I'm Yo-yoing Up and Down Like a Yo-yo Yo-yoing. A ditty really.

It was an off the cuff remark that prompted you to tell me not to try any of Freud's dirty tricks.
