@Bwana,
Everyone has the right to the pursuit of happiness. That is something different to having a right to happiness.
If everyone has a right to happiness how does Society/The State assure fulfillment?
If and when I am asked to vote on whether gay people can get married in Texas, I will vote in favor of the proposition, but, in fact, people not only have the right but the power to tell others how they will live.
The sort of facile pronouncements you've offered are of very little consequence, and are quite akin to declaring "War is bad!"
If you are married or get married and have kids, you will not be permitted to make them your sex slaves.
(NOTE: Before anyone goes apeshit on me, I am not equating gay marriage with making children sex slaves)
It might make you very happy if you could but there are very definately people with the
right and power to tell you how to live.
Polygamy is illegal in this country, and undoubtedly there are lots of folks (American Muslims in particular) who would be happier if it was made legal.
Is anyone hurt by polygamy? Presumably the multiple wives were all willing, no?
The law banning the practice, though, assumes there is a material possibility of one or more of the parties being hurt. Inteference with the
right to happiness?
You should consider that despite what rex suggests, not all of the people who object to gay marriage are hateful demons.
