@Region Philbis,
Yeah, plus he attended Emerson College right here in Beantown, so maybe I'm being too harsh on these people. But what do Opie and Andy Taylor know? They lived in a small town in the Deep South which didn't have one single black person residing there apparently. Now, you know that's as mythical as you can get.

@Merry Andrew,
Mythical? Really? I would think that there are towns even now all over the country that don't have a single black person residing there.

@eoe,
I don't know where you live, eoe, but I've never been in a Southern town where such a situation obtained. Different story in New England or some parts of the Midwest. I've lived in and visited towns that were lilly-white but they were all above the Mason-Dixon line.

@Merry Andrew,
Not advocating for the exclusion of blacks in 1950's-1960's TV shows, but I know for a fact there were a couple of blacks shown in crowd scenes on the Andy Griffith show. And not even in the later ones, but in the original black-and-white first 2 or 3 seasons.

Besides, I think these spots by "opie" might be effective - Andy Griffith's show and persona are still beloved across the south, so who's to say his favoring Obama might not be persuasive to some subconscious degree?

@Region Philbis,
He was on the TV show Numb3rs. I still like him, though I'm not sure if cool was ever his appeal to me.
