@Asherman,
The White Flag of Surrender also implies that the Republicans now feel their great leader lied as 'Mission Accomplished' implies victory yet now the Republicans are crying about a 'White Flag of Surrender'. Which is true was it a victory or a defeat?
First of all Obama does not say we should pull out all out once but rather like an 18 month statergy, something the Iraqis want as well. He also does not suggest we pull all the troops out but leave a residue of troops in to keep an eye on things. These little details gets overlooked by both left and the right.
I doubt there will ever come a time when we can say we can leave with there being no possiblity of things going haywire in our absence. The country is just too split up for that and always has been. Even now with the surge having at least put a bandaide on the some of the violence there is still political violence and hardly no political progress. Since that is the case, we have to start carving a way for withdrawing most of the troops (or all if asked by the Iraqis since it is their country) we have and start concentrating on other areas like Afghanistan and Pakistan and start using some of the money we keep wasting in Iraq (recall the recent report about the money in reconstruction either being stolen or given or just wasted) and use it in our country or in other situations militarily around the world. We do not have infinite amounts of resources we just keep spending in one place and still expect to do everything else we need to do both domestically and abroad.
Asherman, Asherman, wherefore art thou?
