To simply default to 'he' is just as bad (maybe worse) than using
the non-gendered 'it'. In my opinion, anyways.

When speaking of mammals, we know that he cannot be neuter gender.
Hence, neuter gender is the LEAST likely (being impossible).
Even castration or a hysterectomy will leave each & every cell in the body
identifiably male or female.

By saying "he" as we have always done, we have a 50% chance of accuracy;
that 's better than zero chance of accuracy.

They don't like her. They're glad she got out and hope she'll keep going.

@OmSigDAVID,
Actually, you have a MORE than a 50% chance of accuracy with "she". More shes get to term.

Almost enough to make you think, eh?

How very optimistic of the owner to think a mere brick on the roof & a few boards would stop the next escape! Clever little dog! Laughing

@patiodog,
I have experienced two attacks by beagles.....out of the blue.

Twice the same. Sitting quietly with someone's family beagle....and they suddenly went for my face.

Never happened with any other dogs.

Weird.

Luckily, my reaction time is very fast, and they both missed.

@dlowan,
Not weird at all, Dlowan.

Never had a problem with bitey beagles -- just that they're the polar opposite of stoic...

@patiodog,
I've a beagle next door...
I like beagle sounds. Really, it would be strange with no dog barks in the air, ever.
On the other hand, I've never had one bite at my face.

@shewolfnm,
Well, don't you remember that at the same time that Smart mormon girl was abducted and was helpless, the Pratt girl in Philadelphia escaped from her kidnappers? Peoples is wired in all kinds of ways, just like dogs. (Remember, 2 beagles just stood there and watched.)
