Many people ban the word "stupid" outright, but for my 3-year-old daughter I have tried to make a distinction between appropriate and inappropriate uses of the language. We made it clear that she can't call her brother stupid. Why? because it will hurt her brother's feelings.
When she objected to me calling my computer stupid, I pointed out that here it was OK. Why? Because computers don't have feelings.
A couple of days ago we were watching TV, and realize I must have been getting a little upset when my daughter asked me...
"Do Republicans have feelings?"
@ebrown p,
Feelings, nothing more than emotional feelings.
Your 3 year old is a prime candidate for government schools and minimum wage.
There is hope for her though, have you considered home schooling?
@H2O MAN,
I suspect you could learn a lot from a 3-year old, Kevin.
@Gargamel,
I suspect that you are a 3-year old, Gargoyle.
@ebrown p,
She probably heard some one else say this and is repeating.
I tend to say don't say stupid especially cause at 3 it can be difficult for a child to not say a word they are used to saying in certain situations. Better to ban completely if you don't want her to say it to a person - at this age kids are more likely to react and say without reasoning whether I am calling a person something vs. an object.
@ebrown p,
That's pretty funny.
Although, I've often been embarrassed for small children who are really toooo young to know what they are talking about but simply mimic what their parents say when it comes to their politics.
@ebrown p,
Tell her yes, we do! And that she should respect that all people have and are entitled to their own viewpoints even when we don't agree with them.
@ebrown p,
That's great!!!
Out of the mouths of babes and sucklings....
Republicans have no feelings and therefore they can't be stupid.

Good for Jonathan Krohn.
At least he does not mimic the crap government schools teach the dumbmasses.
