Why would you go to a high school game on such a brutal day, RH?

Not much else to do in Kansas, RJB.

Meanwhile, I should like to mention the beautiful weather here in the Valley of the Sun, where it will be a beautiful 80 degrees tomorrow.

@Ticomaya,
Actually, tico, the Miz and I will be in your valley from Thanksgiving till the first week in December. Any suggestions for places to go see? We'll have our Jeep in tow.

Here in Virginia today it is 55 degrees and sunny. The peak of the fall colors was last weekend, but the last vestiges of the yellows from maples and the red from oaks still present a good show today. Do yall have trees in Kansas and Arizona?
Interesting, Alex, about Detroit. Despite their being 0-8, six of us here see them as beating Jacksonville today.
There are 8 early games beginning shortly to go along with the game last Thursday. One of those is Baltimore @ Houston which, you will recall, was postponed by the hurricane.
I looked at the total points we see being scored in the Monday night game. The lowest prediction is Jespah @ 29 to the highest by Region @ 73.

BTW: WE HAVE ANOTHER THURSDAY NIGHT GAME IN WEEK #11:
NYJets @ New England. The same rule applies as last week. Pick that one game as soon as you want and pick the weekend games later, or pick the whole schedule after it is posted on Tuesday.

Finally, I note that Mysteryman will be having a birthday tomorrow. The truck driving m'man and volunteer firefighter from western KY will turn 48.
Cheers.

I'm writing 1000 times:

I will not switch my pick to favor Detroit as my pick.

@CowDoc,
If you have your Jeep, I recommend the Apache Trail from Apache Junction to Globe. LINK

Send me an email (in my profile), and maybe we can meet up when you're in the area. Miz Tico is from your neck of the woods.

Lots of trees in both states, RJB. Northern Arizona and the Tonto National Forest and White Mountains to the East of the Phx valley are lousy with pine trees.

However, here in the valley, this is the most prolific tree:

@Ticomaya,
Remembering a fine Thevetia peruviana (yellow oleander) outside the entry to Taliesin..
I've a picture of that in bloom near the building, but not handy. Here's an image from google on it -

and a link re Parkinsonia aculeata, the mexican palo verde tree - which I've always liked..

Er, 'scuse me, back to football...

@ossobuco,
My dad (1908-1996) spoke about "seeing the desert bloom" sometime in the depression years, after he, an electrical engineer, could only find work stringing telephone lines across ND in the winter. A job he was grateful to have. He drifted to NM and AZ.
He mentioned it a number of times in his declining years. We tried to figure out a way to get him back there, but we ran out of time.

@ossobuco,
One suspects the oleander is designed to be a bit more inviting to visitors to the site. Jumping Cholla and Barrel Cacti are a mite prickly.

@Ticomaya,
Yeah, and it's obviously not a native, is actually from tropical America, whereas Parkinsonia is a native to the southwest US, and, frankly, looks more "fitting" in the environment. I've an increasingly strong bias toward natives, or relatively heavy use of them (hah, I've lots of lavender in my own yard).
I don't know that much about Wright's planting strategies, know more about Neutra. But.. that tree at Taliesin was well pruned and sure was pretty the day I saw it.

Also the Thevetia is poisonous - all parts, if ingested. I used to have one for a while in Venice, and I worried about kids picking up the rather gorgeous seed pods in our alley; eventually took it out.

You're doing nicely, as usual, in F. Football..

Interesting about your dad's memories, RJ. Wonder if he was referring to the wild flowers..

He was, osso. I just got off the phone with my bro in Germany. I told him the story above and he remembers Dad talking about the same thing to him.

Nine games down, 5 to go. Guess who is winning so far this week?
Ehbeth! With a perfect 9-0 score. Amazing. Osso and Rochead are just a step behind with just one wrong pick each.

For most of us, perfection is an unattainable goal. For Ehbeth, it's something she occasionally falls from...
