Although I am Thomas, I do not look like Douglas Adams. Strangely, this confuses some people the first time they meet me in real life.

@Thomas,
Pleasantly confused, Thomas. I'm hoping I'm not the only one that was constantly thinking "I want to touch those curls."

I am a dog.

I'm not skinny. I'm skwinny.

I have yet to meet you.
Your stand in last time was nice, cute, and fun.... but one of these days I want to meet the REAL Thomas....

@JTT,
Douglas Adams is an author, as Eva said. His most famous book is The Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy. My personal favorite is Last Chance to See, a non-fiction fusion of travel book and environmentalist advocacy pamphlet. Persistent throughout his book is an absurdist sense of humor, which most readers I know either hate or love. I'm one of those who love it.

@Thomas,
Thanks Eva. I knew I had heard the name, Thomas, but I can't say as I've ever seen a pic of him. So I gather that your avatar is him. He will always be Thomas to me.

@JTT,
(I've been teasing Thomas about the avatar's resemblance to Phil Collins for years, JTT.)

@Eva,
Douglas Adams was pure genius. If you haven't read "Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy" you have led an unfulfilled life.

Douglas Adams wrote:

"Man has always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much - the wheel, New York, wars and so on - while all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time.

But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man for precisely the same reason

@ebrown p,
He felt that his whole life was some kind of dream and he sometimes wondered whose it was and whether they were enjoying it.

Anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job.

Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

He attacked everything in life with a mix of extraordinary genius and naive incompetence, and it was often difficult to tell which was which.

I could relate to Douglas Adams as a youngster growing up - i was a fan of Dirk Gently and the BBC tv version of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, which was great.
He was well known as an environmental activist (he called himself an activist) and I was very sad when he died unexpectedly (aged only 49).

BTW - I am not The Most Handsome of All Gods
- I figure i can't be, because i don't believe in gods.

@ebrown p,
Oh, I've read the book, ebrown. It's a modern classic. I even recommended it to my teenage son this summer. (I don't think he quite "got" it.)

Adams is quite well known. Again, I was TEASING Thomas.

LOVE your avatar, btw...

I'm not margo, either - which is confoozling to those who've met me!

And I'm not a cat - but a "cat's mother"

But I am a big fan of Douglas Adams. From way back in the radio days. (Hitchhiker was initially a radio play!)

I am NOT bi-Polar.... manic depressive or anything else. I'm a regular guy.

I am glad to see this statement. Three or four years ago, I started a thread on Bi-Polar disorder, and everybody avoided it like the plague. I suspected then, as now, they were afraid it would be an afront to Bear to post on such a topic. Happy to see the concern was misguided.

Yes- 0ne night a week, here, too.

And it was on the night I worked late, so I'd listen to it on the way home from work - and then sit out the front in the car until it finished.
