@wandeljw,
Worse for what wande. Or who?

And what's so special about Nobel prize winners once they are outside the specialisation necessary to win such a thing. Einstein couldn't even remember to get a sock on both feet. And no wonder. Riding on a light beam does take the mundane aspects of life away somewhat.

Most of the 40 are probably mooching around a garden centre being yinned out of their mind in the wake of a wife looking for novel ways to spend their money and being flattered by salespersons into believing themselves important enough to be worthy of such expert and considerate attention. The money coming from a lifetime spent looking for the duck-billed quark.

The matter is beyond their ken. They are not even aware they are being yinned.

I'm simply not having it that Mr Jindal is an idiot. It is far too easy an explanation which is what makes it such a popular one. So popular in fact that it might be a signifier of an IQ of 100 + or-- a bit. It might be said to be subversive. It does call into question the validity of the US system to say that idiots are being elected and are running things.

It has a dissident temperment in it. Which psychologists say, or some of them, stems from being subjected to constant yammering yinning.

I'm surprised that 40 Nobel prize winners have seen fit to place themselves in such a position.

@wandeljw,
Ifd he vetoes the repeal (assuming it makes it up the charts), Jindal will kill any hope he has to national office where he would have to be approved by Congress, I dont think anyone would take him on as a running mate with a Creationism/ID badge of approval on his butt.

He did it all to himself. He should have come out in favor of standard science in school and stuck with a majority Christian worldview. As it is, he seems to be siding with the "Snake Handlers" and "tongue speaking" minority contingent of Fundamentalists.

@farmerman,
But those "fundamentalists" are the ones who are advocating on destroying Planned Parenthood, equal rights for gays and lesbians, and do-nothings on immigration reform.

@cicerone imposter,
I think there are more voters who would look on those traits negatively than would look positively on his pro ID views.

What a contemptuous dismissal that actually is. It signifies an intellectual superiority of such proportions as to be unable to be bothered trying to explain itself to a conspiracy of unelected busybodies and can absorb with ease anything thrown at it by such people. A lot of confidence is needed to treat AP so off-handedly.

@farmerman,
I didn't know that it is necessary to be approved by Congress to run for office.

Since when were "snake handlers" and "forked-tounge speakers" at a disadvantage when running a political campaign?

I presume you mean they offered nothing to someone of your intellectual capacities. Which says nothing about what they offer to the intellectual capacities of others. Your assertion is thus a lie.

Nobel laureates push repeal of Louisiana Science Education law
(The Associated Press, April 21, 2011)

More than 40 Nobel Prize-winning scientists are urging Gov. Bobby Jindal and Louisiana lawmakers to repeal a law that allows public school science teachers to use supplemental materials in their classrooms beyond state-approved textbooks.

In a letter, the Nobel laureates say the "Louisiana Science Education Act" of 2008 creates a pathway for creationism to be taught in science classes.

A Jindal spokeswoman says the governor opposes any attempts to repeal the law.

The scientists' letter was circulated Thursday by high school student Zack Kopplin, who has set up a blog pushing the law's repeal. Sen. Karen Carter Peterson, a Democrat from New Orleans, has filed legislation for the session that begins Monday to do away with the law.

Guidelines adopted by the state education board ban promotion of a religious doctrine in the supplemental materials.

@cicerone imposter,
So? What's your point? Everybody could read my post and knew full well what it was responding to.

What extra rights do 40 Nobel laureates have that 40 lap dancers don't have? Does the Nobel Committee give out awards so that they can lend prestige to arguments against an elected govenor?

You attack the Christian ethic in the name of honesty and truth, which is a joke, but are seemingly blissfully unaware that the high valuation of honesty and truth is itself an important part of that very ethic. Nietzsche, the "God is dead" man, looped the loop because he was honest enough to know it. So save yourself from his fate by repressing the fact from your consciousness.

@spendius,
If you really believe that amassed opinion of NObel Laureates in SCience are irrelevant to the issue, Then would you please stop dragging irrelevant clips from economists, and philosophers into this discussion regarding the teaching of evolution.

I thought Jindal did himself in with his response to the State of the Union address the year before last.

@farmerman,
40 Nobel laureates calling for the gov. to do what they want is not a discussion. In a discussion they would supply their reasons and deal with any objections to them.

As it is the Nobel prize institution is being dragged into this discussion without its permission. It has as much value as a top footballer recommending a particular breakfast cereal. Basically it is a lie. It is trying to load one side of the argument with nothing more than elitist ballast.

Get one of them on here and let's hear his reasons. Since when are 40 Nobles running Louisiana?

Quote:
817 Laureates and 23 organizations have been awarded the Nobel Prize between 1901 and 2010. Of them, 67 are Laureates in Economic Sciences. A small number of individuals and organizations have been honoured more than once, which means that 813 individuals and 20 unique organizations have received the Nobel Prize in total.

Were the 40 rounded up for being known pro-evolutionists by e-mail or did they all step into the limelight at the same time coincidentally.

So the devious and underhanded methods of your side to set aside an election result are exposed. The totalitarian underbelly of anti-ID. Scientists rule. Bollocks.

Out of their very narrow specialisation most of them are like a fish out of water. And don't forget that the Nobel Committee had a good piss up with Alf's dough so they would probably give you the gong if they had nobody else to keep the annual jamboree in being. A sort of self administered orgy of chin chucking on TV.

I hate award ceremonies of that sort. They get corrupted all to ****. The FA Cup is okay. That's objective. Out in the open. What goes on in the closed rooms in Stockholm is murky.

But thinking the 40 represent a decisive argument for anti-ID is childlike.

spendi, Exactly what permission is required to talk about the Nobel prize?

Who said it was. I believe they call it a "petition". Look it up.

@farmerman,
Not a petition from 40 lap dancers or motor mechanics. It was a petition so bereft of confidence that it had to round up by e-mail 40 nobles, who were enobled in the first place by anti-IDers in Europe because they were "safe", in lieu of any arguments. As if a Nobel prize is an argument. And 40 of them a clincher even though they are all pissing in the same pot.

Give us the list of who these 40 nobles are fm. Let's see the whites of their eyes. They are a bit anonymous as things stand.

It turns out that there is one day in the year when there are no newspapers and another day when all the shops are shut. The former is the anniversary of the birth of Jesus and the latter is the anniversary of Him rising from the dead and going round to Mary Magdalene's back gate.

You secularists are really filled with piety when it comes to the crunch.
