An experiment for A2K...

Reply Thu 21 Aug, 2008 10:12 pm
I started a new aquatic tank for Miz Iz, and her wonderful youngest son.

I did it with A2K in mind. It is 5 gallons in a hex (metric be damned) and contains only two creatures.

(heinlein shot)

A "blue lobster, and a "beta" fish (aka chinese fighting fish)

Two predators of different ilk in a free environnment...

I will see if anyone is curious of the progress besides the cat.

@Rockhead,
I had a house mate who used to pit praying mantises against black widows. I'd be interested in hearing results. Maybe they'll ignore each other. Do you plan on feeding them?

@Rockhead,
A friend of mine had a fish-lobster-cat situation as well.

Cat won.

Twice.

He is now on his third lobster.

@littlek,
They are both over fed, I am scientific, not cruel...

(so far, the Beta is not verra smart, and may soon be removed...)

@Rockhead,
Well! It's not like the beta can win against the lobster (I mean eat it).

@littlek,
he can when he sheds his shell.

China has the whole damn tank, but NOOOOO.

He has to swim into the tunnel of OWW.

He has WAY less plumage than he did when I got him, but Dammit, he still has his pride...

@Rockhead,
I'm sorry, but I don't see the beta having much of a fighting chance. How big is the lobstah?

@Rockhead,
I love aquariums and am curious to see what happens. I think your BETA will eventually die from the stress or from being eaten.

@Robert Gentel,
I read that as: "I think your BETA will eventually die from the stress of being eaten."

Friend of mine owned a blue lobster. I guess the aquarium he had was too small; he often was alerted by the sound of the lobster scurrying across the floor. He eventually traded it for something else.

I'm with littlek on this one. Nature is cruel enough as it is. SAVE THE FISH! SAVE THE FISH!.

@dadpad,
It's fresh, DP. Poor folks know better than to do salt...

Before all you nice ladies get squeamish, let me say again that I will stop this before the silly bugger kills hisself, but it is so excruciatingly like A2K at times...

He cannot stop his agression, even though he is fighting a vastly superior, armored opponent.

(I won't share their names...)

An update on the A2K tank.

Beta is rapidly growing back plumage(he IS a fighting fish)

I may shoot a pic when he can swim straight...

Lobster is hungry finally today(thinking Beta fins are nutritious...)

Fish now avoids the Cave of Death, and is establishing peremiters of his own, as he should have to start with.

Darwinism at it's best.

(Lobster is VERY healthy and growing)
