Why is my blood sugar high when i wake up.....i went to diabetes.com and they say cause your liver produces enzymes to make sugar while your sleeping and cortisol is released and doesnt let sugar get metabolized.......but what is it doing that for....my stomach is empty and im eating way less and good food. I eat around 5 and test my sugar before bed and its usually normal now between 90 and 110.....and when i test in the morning its high...140 range. I also am exercising like a madman.....shouldnt it stay low?
Dawn effect. Blood sugar can drop overnight. When it does, that altruistic little liver dumps glycogen to bring it back up. That rise is controlled by insulin in a person with a normal metabolism. If you have diabetes, your metabolism isn't normal, by definition.
Try bedtime snacks, with carbs, but on the lower end of the glycemic index.
