I don't think pedophile priests are the pope's continuing vision for the church, cjhsa...

You're certainly not implying that, are you?

I don't think the pope or the church has done anywhere near enough to address the issue.

And, you are not Catholic? Do you have an opinion on all faiths?

Yes. Pointing out that ONE person used a fear-mongering, racially-polarizing argument ONE time means that ANYONE who disagrees with Obama for ANY reason is racist.

You take one data point and extrapolate to infinity, seeking to deflect a legitimate criticism.

And the legitimate criticism is.........?

Are some topics just off limits?

'You can't bring that up because to discuss it is racist'. Is that where we are, DD?

Why is it inappropriate to want to know Obama's intentions before the election?

His pastor of 20 years ('my mentor') and some of his advisors are on record supporting reparations.

What is wrong with wanting to know if he agrees and if he intends to pursue same if elected?

Why are you afraid of open discussion?

Being an agnostic does not say one should have an opinion on all faiths. It only means you can doubt the veracity of all faiths. How they are managed by their respective adherents is outside the realm of an agnostic, I believe.

As an agnostic also, I though subscribe to the good advice I got in basic training, M.Y.O.B.

I believe I sufficiently ridiculed the whole idea with my first post on this thread. The whole "question" is manufactured, and calculated to highlight Obama's race.

Whether or not you choose to bring it up after this is up to you; I rather hope that you do so that I can continue to laugh at you.

Falling back on the old "your stifling my free expression of ideas," eh?

So, is it legit to ask a white candidate about their views on reparations?

Candidates get asked all kinds of crazy things.

Semi-hysterical threads on the Internet, asking hypothetical questions not directly addressed to the candidates, are pretty clearly designed to highlight race differences.

Nice dodge you're driving these days, DD.

Is it legit to ask a white candidate about his views on reparations, (or to discuss what those views are if one is not fortunate enough to have direct access to ask the candidate in person) ?

Okay, you fake - let's go there...

About which white candidate have you ever inquired about their views on reparations?

If Hilly were the nominee, I would definitely want to know her view.

Bill Clinton expressed his views on the subject while in office

Isn't it appropriate for Americans to know what a candidate stands for , before being asked to vote for them?

I'm all for reparations.... as long as accepting them requires you to return to your "homeland".

The question I would have regarding reparations is why this generation of African-Americans and not future generations, since any reparations could be frittered away quite fast? And, with a possible perception on the part of future generations of African-Americans, that American society is still racist, would future generations want their "fair-share" of reparatations too?

In other words, would reparations be an endless payoff for the shame of having once had slavery in the United States?

And, what would that do to the self-esteem of African-Americans that value their having "picked themselves up by their own bootstraps"?

How is this a dodge? I think the any candidate's views on reparations are a legitimate question. How much clearer can I make it for you, slick?

It is alright to ask the question, but since Obama has already answered this question very clearly (NO), it is obvious that you started this thread in order to smear Obama. And that makes you a huge douchebag in my book.

Actually I started this thread a few days before Obama's recent statement.

His appointment of several advocates of reparations to campaign advisory positions made it a valid concern.

Even now after denying support for 'reparations', it seems clear that he could easily support the concept but using a different label for political cover.
