How do you pronounce Beijing?

I still say Pee-kin. And I write Tokio. So sue me.

It is pronounced "Peking" on their national TV news - I noticed it particularly while staying there on business.

Besides, it's ridiculous for us to start substituting words for foreign places when the English word exists already; you may know Italian or German, but you'd never use "Milano" or "Muenchen" while speaking English.

I've noticed these neologisms only apply to countries we really patronize like India (Bombay is Mumbai? gimme a break), Africa and Asia, never to other Western countries.

Do you actually stay in Beijing, or in Hong Kong? I hear newscasters in Beijing say: "bay jing". Cantonese (Hong Kong) sounds different than Mandarin (Beijing and most provinces outside Canton).
