The time zone thing messes with my head. We are now into day 2 or maybe into 3.
My team did good today, but so did the other folks who have the American Men. 20 of us.

Well, MOU, YOU are doing quite well in the competition. Your country just isn't quite up there in dream team territory but hey, anything can happen, yes? My fortunes slipped in the last 24 hours but never fear, I've got you all right where I want you. (cough)

being in the gang without a tv at home, I watched the opening ceremony in the bbc website live stream and there weren't any commercial interruptions, but the audio transmission had a quite loud background noise, as if coming from the other end of the world!

unluckily for me i haven't watched any olympica games, but i'll be looking forward to all those that I can't watch in a pub (that's pretty much every olymic sport but football).

OK, the Fighting Gerbils have ya'll where they want you! It can only go up from here!

The method of scoring in boxing is terrible. I saw 2 knock outs today and neither knock out punch was awarded a point! The judges are not consistent. Some score for body shots and some don't........most do not and a body shot resulted in one of the knock outs.

Yeah honcho, they changed the rules a while ago. I know the Australian boxers had to be retrained after Sydney 2000, not to box, but to win using the new olympic point scoring system. Basically to get a point the white dot on the front of the gloves has to connect with a designated part of the head or body of your opponent. The power of the hit doesn't come into it, and if the 'wrong' part of your glove hits, or if you connect with the 'wrong' part of your opponent you get no points, even if you knock the bugger down. On top of that two of the three judges have register it as a hit for it to count.

It was dull as dishwater to watch. But at least no-one's going to get permanent brain damage. I hope.

Memories of the old days of my tv watching youth.. interesting, my parents let me watch boxing with my father. Marciano, Liston. Lots of other names. I probably wasn't such a youth in Ali's time but paid attention.

One of my friends' father was a boxer of some renown in southern California in the forties. He got the boxer's syndrome very similar to alzheimer's and died with many distressful happenings for him and the family when we were around twenty. Years later, perhaps when we were in our later forties, she and I met for coffee and a pastry and conversation at Napoleon's in Santa Monica, and who should be walking by as we went in but Mohammed Ali and a companion. She gasped! He kissed her hand. We all walked on.
Big memory for her. Not a bad one for me either.
