I'll feel like a "winner" when my standing is in the top half. LOL

my warriors are slowly creeping up! but boy! those picks in the group D were also off mark --- like the last Italian arrow in the archery men's final .... just waiting to the very end to blow it!

I'm beginning to think I might not be doing much 'inching', but who knows. Nobody gave the USA any chance at all for gold in the men's 4x100 freestyle relay, It was by far the most exciting event so far for me.

Even though I didn't pick USA (some instinct not to, which may or may not pan out), I'm a big Phelps fan... thus my dolphin kicking name. I read that he has been a major factor in the increased use of the kick.

My team did bad this day, but I am personally in better shape.
I went to bed last night only at half past midnight (right after the good Nadal-Storace tennis game) and woke up at 6:00 am, right in time to see the Mexican boxers win. In one of the bouts a member of the Tycolimpians (from Madagascar) really took a beating.

Sports I've watched so far:
Weightlifting (3 finals)
Swimming (all the finals, some qualis and semis)
Fencing (2 assaults)
Badminton (2 games)
Volleyball (US-Venezuela, good game)
Beach Volleyball (Mexico-Brasil, our girls won a set, but lost)
Boxing (4 bouts)
Tennis (a set of González beating a Chinese, most of Nadal-Storace)
Judo (2 matches, both a bore... waiting for our Panam champ Vanessa Zambotti)
Basketball (glimpses - Australia-Ucrania)
Handball (glimpses Germany-Brasil)
Synchronized diving (fell asleep on one, it was a 2:30 a.m; the other I saw recorded)
Rowing (3 or 4 races)
Gymnastics (men and women
Sailing, even! (the end of one race)

But damn, I missed the archery final!

Can the Merrycans amongst you name every gold medal winner you've had since the modern Olympics began? Huh? Huh?

I can name all of ours including the year, venue and discipline.

(Yes - all six of 'em)

Yeah, but I'm old and sometimes have trouble remembering what I had for breakfast.

This won't take long...

Pat O'Callaghan (2) - 28 & 32- hammer
Bob Tisdall - '32 - 400m hurdles
Ronnie Delaney - '56 - 1500m (or was it the mile in dem dayz?)
Michael Carruth - '92 - Boxing (welterweight)
Michelle Smith (3) - '96 - swimming*
Cian O'Connor - 2004 - Showjumping*

Admittedly, the last four were somewhat tainted. Michelle Smith (allegedly) tampered with an out of competition sample by adding whiskey (what else?) to it while Cian O'Connor's horse was "treated" for an ailment using some banned substance or other. (Hence my team name "THIOS" - That Horse Is On Steroids).

Okay - your turn. Razz

Well done lmur. And may you have to struggle to remember the length of your list before this olympics is done. (<--Irish blessing I just made up.)

Here's a real one:

I think that the words (perennial runner-up) are not corrects, because in the actually Journal (#3) of the Mexican Soccer Fantasy league, I was the first place another time. Two consecutives times, its a good record, by the way. Isn't it Tocayo???

If this plays out like last time, the Dogpaddlers will work their way to zee bottom of the pool. But it's a kick so far to be upperechelon-ish.

I'll lift a glass of Pellegrino to Federica Pellegrini for a world record in the 200m freestyle. (No, I didn't pick Italy this time, dumb move so far.)

You have been many times in first place.
You have never won the tournament.
Neither have I.

Osso, I'm kicking myself for not picking Australia, Italy, and Croatia among others. I expect to endure more kicks before this is over, too. Smile
