Auctioneer Charles Hanson said:

"These pants, considering their provenance and pedigree, are very exciting.

"They are monogrammed (with VR for Victoria Regina) and crested and we know that they are hers."

Mr Hanson said the bloomers are an interesting piece of social history that indicate Queen Victoria was "a very big lady of quite small stature with a very wide girth".

Queen Victoria lived from 1819 until 1901 and was the UK's longest-reigning monarch.

The knickers are made from a fine cotton and are hand-made.

I was disappointed beyond belief last week when, after waiting patiently for several hours, shewolfnm did not hang any of her underwear on the community clothesline as I had been told she would.

I was going to press a few pieces into a book.

I like underwear. Especially pretty underwear.

A couple of years ago, a friend's daughter (age 4) was helping me take my laundry out and fold it. She went upstairs and asked her mother why she couldn't wear girl underwear like Beth. Why did she (D, mother) wear boy underwear. D cried for about half an hour. Then the three of us went out and got girl underwear for D. Girly underwear can be fun Cool

some years ago - ehbeth was still a teeny-bopper - we visited in germany . ehbeth wore the finest and most colourful underwear .
tante ruth did the wash for us and put all the clothes out on the line in the backyard .
ehbeth's "canadian" underwear was discretely placed on the centre clotesline - concealed by large white bedsheets .
when questioned : "why are you hiding ehbeth's underwear ? " , she said : " couldn't possibly put it on the ouside ! what would the neighbours think ! COLOURED UNDERWEAR !!!! Shocked

Hamburger - you and your lady are from the great northern plains (as you know so's half of my own family) but consider the people inhabiting the great Alpine mountain range way south: linens and underwear had to be white because everything went into a giant pot with lots of soap and water where everything BOILED for purposes of cleaning and disinfection. You see that colored items might ruin the rest of the wash in the circumstances.

And no, I don't do yodelling, and my name isn't Heidi, it's just I developed sympathy for your Tante Ruth - she was thinking chemistry, not modesty Smile
