I wouldn't bet on it matey-boy, not after seeing these 'roos stomp all over the favourites NZ this morning. And, there's the small matter of the French XV to surmount first.
Well, you could bet your Sta-Prest trousers (pants, to the others) if you must bet something. Smile

Good to hear from you; and some domestic detail from the McTags: tonight, I bought a takeaway curry from the Kaya Koli, our re-opened mini-restaurant which is just near our cafe-bar which you know, Steve, having sampled the food in there.

Well, this time we had bhuna lamb for me and prawn biryani for the memsahib. With pilau rice and three chapattis. Very nice, I'm pleasantly full now. The food from there is good- I hope they keep their standards up. If they do, I will find it very habit-forming.

Ok bye for now- be good.

Why is it, do you think, that when I join a thread it comes to a grinding halt?
Is it perhaps that some of you have got a life, and do not post on weekends? That must indeed be the reason. I am a very sad man.

Tonight, we had fried steak, very nice, with parsnip and braised leek and steamed potatoes.
To follow, we had tea and Smarties. Yes really.

Now, Fiona has gone out to a performance of Verdi's Requiem and I can finish reading my morning/ afternoon paper, now evening also.

I'm going to see if there are any Smarties left.

These??? Are they better than M&M's?

Well, we can get M&Ms, but although I think they are similar, I don't buy them. If I can get Smarties.
Cos I like Smarties. I suspect Smarties are a kind of comfort sweet for me, (it was I who bought them this afternoon, two tubes!) a subconscious link to a simpler time, a carefree childhood, who knows.
My brother, he's weird, he used to sort them all by colour and count them before he ate them, and he always had some left when mine were all gone. Now, I can buy two whole tubes and eat them in assorted and mixed colours and not save any and he can't stop me!! Revenge is a dish best eaten cold and Smartie-coloured.

(Warning: None of the above should be taken too seriously nor given undue credence Smile )

I would have thought that Verdi's Requiem would be better suited to next weekend! Twisted Evil

Aussie upset against the All-Blacks, so bring on the Poms. But they'll have to do a bit better than they did last night. You could have saved a buck and just sent Jonny Wilkinson. The Wallabies shut down Carlos Spencer! Think what they'll do to Wilkinson (he's surely decorative, though!)

A bit too butch for me, Margo.
(BTW there's some cheescake (is that the right term?) pictures of Wilkinson and some pervy French rugby players in the Observer Sports Supplement (I suppose it won't be available online) of the paper today.

***No, I checked, I was wrong, it is in the paper proper:

http://observer.guardian.co.uk/uk_news/story/0,6903,1086330,00.html

Sorry no pervy pics for the ladies in the online version.

An interesting weekend in prospect for us: we are going up to Edinburgh next Friday, and we will go into a pub in the city on Saturday morning to see the game. The point being, that all the Jocks in the place will be supporting Australia! (I suppose: why break with tradition?)

Did not watch Rugby on Sat as 1. Woke up late 2. Was too busy watching India thrash the Kiwis in Cricket.

Did not watch Rugby on Sun as 1. Woke up late 2. Went riding 3. Went shopping - but it was so bloody crowded that came right back

Cooked pasta with fresh arabiata sauce for some friends on Sunday night, unfortunately mis judged the strength of the green chillies (which were bought from a Sri Lankan shop) so had to finish two bottles of white wine between three of us, just to avoid our tongues setting on fire.

Well convincing win over les bleus. Time to wallop them wallabies.

Glad to hear your local take away is opened up again McTag. (yes the food was very good) But smarties for afters?

Hope your afters were ok Gautam with all that chillie. It usually hits me about 10 hours later. ps your interest in Rugby might pick up if you saw some of those pics of Frederic Michalak!

But they're history now. We completely tactically out thought and out played the French. But England are saving their best till last. Switching codes and countries slightly, disappointing for Holland eh McTag? Still McBerties Boys will get stuffed in Amsterdam (you know I don't mean it)

But I do know that Scotland will go mad if Australia win. !!

Of now, got some ironing to do (and irony ing, but thats another thread) Very Happy

Something is rotten in the state of Denmark, but not the way they play football (says Walter, full of joy that we Germans added another great example of Franco-Allemand friendship).

Well it doesn't get much better than this.

Rudy boy scores 3 (as I predicted) to put McBerties McPhailures out. Russia (na sdrovia) do for the Welsh windbangs

AND ENGLAND WIN THE WORLD CUP

in Sydney agaist the Wallabies in STYLE against the referee to take the world championship with such grace and dignity.....words fail me.

[note the surely John Howard virtually throwhig the cup at Martin Johnson]

The best sporting moment (nearly my last... heart failure imminent) in my life. Including Man Utd Bayern Munich 1999. England v W Germany 1966.

c.i.

Ros and Steve will be visiting us just before christmas here in Germany.
And for the time after that ... well, we have to visit some relatives, do our own christmas ...

Sorry, I'd really like to come over (besides, at THAT time, airfares are extremely high to London from here), but ...

Razz Razz Razz ppppfffffffffttttttttt!!!!!!!!!

Took bloody Jonny until the last 30 seconds, after 20 minutes of extra time to do it. And the Poms brought their own weather - 3 years of drought, and it starts pelting down on Friday. Still raining today - Monday morning - and it's cold.

And I do notice that Gautam made no more mention about the cricket! Yes - the Indians beat the Kiwis, and that put them into the final against.......OZ

And............................

C'mon, G - you should be able to get some good fares to Oz - most of England is here already, gloating in the streets, and they'll have to go back home soon. (please) The Indian cricket team arrive next week for one-day matches and then tests - get out here!!!!!!!
