12-year-old's mom settles with RIAA, P2P association pays the bill
http://www.afterdawn.com/news/archive/4467.cfm

Quote:
Girl's mother has now settled the case with RIAA, in order to avoid costly legal process and has agreed to pay $2,000 in damages to the RIAA.

After the settlement was published, a file-sharing companies' lobby group, P2P United, has stepped into the limelight and promised to pay the little girl's RIAA bill.

To say that this is absurd would be a gross understatement.

They are also zapping a 39 y.o. single mom from Denver, according to today's RMN. She is an administrative assistant and makes less than $35 000.00/yr. I wonder if RIAA realizes just how much this makes them look like true and total b#stards?

Personally I am about to send a couple of my bands songs to every internet address that will allow people to listen to them and download them.

If they like them I will build my fan base and people will buy the whole cd.

If any young girls download my music illegally I will settle out of court if they show me their tits. Twisted Evil Cool

disclaimer: by young girls I mean 18 to 30 of course. Razz

I copied that pic (originally named mp3commie.jpg) off some website on Oct 15, 2001 with a couple dozen other funny ones.
Strange, but google and altavista can't find any of those pictures on the web anymore!

Oh, here Alexa.com found one at
http://gammatron.novarese.net/2000/11/temparchive.html refering to the original artist at
http://www.modernhumorist.com/mh/0011/mp3/before.fm
You can buy it on a poster or T-shirt there.

It's amazing what different results each search engine has! It seems they are very incomplete in their results.

EFF anti-RIAA petition goes gangbusters
http://arstechnica.com/archive/news/1063503260.html
Quote:
The EFF recently launched a petition [ link here ] decrying the RIAA legal strong-arm tactics. Their goal was to collect some 10,000 signatures, but they're now about to break 20,000, and the weekend isn't even over yet. The EFF's stance is clear:

"The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) is on a rampage, launching legal attacks against average Americans from coast to coast. Rather than working to create a rational, legal means by which its customers can take advantage of file-sharing technology and pay a fair price for the music they love, it has chosen to sue people like Brianna LaHara, a 12 year-old girl living in New York City public housing. "

In the wake of the RIAA amnesty program and their legal attacks on this minor, public outcry is reaching an all-time high. Few people think that open piracy is the answer, but fewer still think that the RIAA should be waging this battle in this way. Hit the petition and let the RIAA know how you feel if you're against their latest moves. It will be delivered to Congress this following week.
