Our IR's are objective, however, abiding by them is
optional, although in your best interest.
A TV series called "Underbelly" was shown this year on Australian TV, it's about the Melbourne gangwar 94-2004...most of the main crims are either dead, in jail, or in the court system.....not that the
law stopped them from robbing and killing numerous people, many totally innocent.
In 1976, a group of 7 men pulled off the biggest robbery in Australia's history, they stole approx 3-5 million dollars, however, by 1983, 6 of the 7 were "murdered", and the other one lasted till 93 before being shot and killed by police.
When speaking about the making of "Goodfella's"....Joe Pesci said that the wiseguys had a lifecycle of about 9-10yrs.
Doesn't sound like that sort of crime pays.
Recognizing and abiding by our IR's are what ensures we're safe when the police aren't around.
