Re: The Great Patents Heist
The most confusingly self-referential link-to-nowhere ever.
Recursive, not self-referential.
Patently funny! I have a mega-cold and the links got mixed up.
not unlike the panama canal, we stole all those patents fair and square.
We built the Panama Canal, Dys, there's a difference!
Back to the article, though, this bit is flagrantly contrary to fact:
Quote:In addition to official government looting of Germany (what GIs always called "liberating"), there was also the personal looting bonanza exemplified by Robert Maxwell, financier extraordinaire, and at one time the most hated man in Britain. The great contribution of this Orthodox Jewish citizen, .....He finally perished mysteriously and nakedly in a plunge from his yacht in 1991 just a week after standing up to the Israeli secret police, the Mossad - who may have set him up in business in the first place.
He never "stood up" to any of those criminals, he just tried to rob them.
Ah, the old myth of German superiority.

Classic demonstration of old proverb: "It's a wise child who knows his own father".
Chumly - the entire article is laughable, with the honorable exception of the title. Most people notice this at first glance, though some of us are slower on the uptake <G>
The claims of "German invention" are not held up by actual historical evidence. The reciprocating gas engine was invented by a gradual evolution of its parts by several workers from all over the world. The engine was developed well before Benz and DAimler. Benz and Daimler adapted the engine for a "modern" style car.
The rocket was known for centuries before V-2. The liquid fueled binary fuel system was dreamed by a Swiss in early 1900 and was developed by Robert Goddard. The GErmans actually stole his design from magazine articles.
The jet engine was co-designed and originated independently by a Brit and a German.
Nuclear fission was first demonstrated by Fermi (although Rutherford was credited). Fermi had shown that fission occurs but he didnt understand how. The news then went to Germany and two physicists successfully demonstrated that fisssion did indeed result in lesser weight daughters (In their case , BArium). The news came back across the Ocen and was landed on by folks at Princeton and U of Chicago(Fermi again-for which he recd a Nobel Prize, as did Hahn, the GErman) and the rest was history.
BTW, in the"rce " to produce an ATomic bomb, the Germans couldnt solve the enrichment problem, they were using a heavy water process that didnt work well.
In the case of all developments, they are collaborative, not exclusive. For eg, when did the reciprocating engine become developed, when it was a 4 stroker?, when someone developed the carburator or the spark ignition? The answer is all of the above. SO stop reading that crap. Its junk.
Don't tell me the UFO and anti-gravity references are false!
Quote:It is at least interesting that it was just two years after the seizure of "50 tons"19 of German aerospace and physics papers that the first major UFO story, the 1947 Roswell, New Mexico incident, broke. After all, what has fascinated researchers ever since (particularly government skeptics monitoring Area 51 at Groom Lake, north of Las Vegas) is things the Germans were working on: spacecraft which use new, tough, but lightweight materials, make 180 degree turns at Mach 4 without spilling the drinks and generally defy the laws of gravity, perhaps by the use of gyroscopes within gyroscopes.
