I've been on the pill for a REALLY long time now and I don't want to be on it forever. Sozlet's 7 1/2. She doesn't want a little brother or sister. I really only ever wanted one kid, and every time I've thought about having a second one I've had heart palpitations. Same with E.G.

We've discussed having a second child at intervals, and always decide against it, but leave the door open just in case.

We've just decided that we're ready to do something more permanent.

This isn't something I know a lot about so thought I'd ask you good folk as a starting point to researching things. E.G. is willing to go under the knife if that makes more sense (in terms of relative complication, etc.) Have you had this done (male or female)? Do you have any thoughts, recommendations, cautions?

Thanks!

Is this where I enter the equation? Glad to help, missy.

Yes. It is your destiny.

No point in denying it.

Yep, we've been there. It does make more sense for the guy to go under the knife. It's less invasive surgery (outpatient), it's cheaper, the recovery is faster, it's easier to reverse. Plus, I threw in the trump card -- "I did childbirth twice and I think my body has done enough."

Gus! Shoo!

Have you had a vasectomy? Want to talk about it, if so?

The only woman I know of who's had a tubal ligation had it done during the same procedure as the caesarian.

I had the same thing done, DrewDad, during the c-section. Piece of cake.

My sister had it done some time after her last child was born and went through a lot of pain.

My ex-ex husband had it done, got remarried, had it reversed, had a kid, then had another vasectomy. Seems like it was no problem.

I guess my response could have been more informative. Hubby did go under the knife. It was an outpatient visit -- took about 4 hours, I think. He was sitting on a bag of frozen peas for a day or two after but healed pretty quickly. I think I remember the doctor saying he should take it easy for about a week but he was up and at'em within a couple of days. The procedure they used involved making little punctures instead of incisions and actually removing a piece of the vas deferens to prevent it from growing back together on its own. The punctures only required a stitch or two of dissolving stitches.

No frozen peas for me.
As previously stated it was day surgery. I walked home that afternoon. My home is spitting distance from the hospital.

My clothing dragged on the stitches which caused a sensation like an ant was crawling in my underwear for a few days. I'd suggest going commando for a week. No pain at all just a scrtatching feeling. The stitches dissolved away.

I was quite keen to test the waters (so to speak). (I think I'd die if I had to go more than a week without) so it was only a couple of days. Gentle the first time admittedly. No changes to orgasm or sensation or anything else.

Stay on the pill for a month or so afterward though.

Oh, some months afterwards i noticed a small lump in the skin of my scrotum which gave me a little start until I realised it was the scar tissue from the cut. The incision - if I can call it that - is only 2 mm long (if that) 1/32 inch? quite small anyway.

For a few weeks, I avoided small children and friendly dogs. No real problems, though.

Yeah, no problem at all!

For YOU.... Laughing

Seriously, soz...it's a much simpler, cheaper procedure for the man, and the recovery time is so much shorter. I'm glad to hear you guys have finally made up your mind. I know this decision has taken you quite awhile.

I use to work with a guy who had it done. He came to work the same night and even though he was walking a little funny, he said it wasn't bad at all. No problems with him either.

Between Hubby and I , we decided it was going to be best for me to be fixed.
Simply because I can not take hormone birth control and condoms are truly not 100% reliable.

It was simple.
Maybe 3 days total of discomfort

I did ask however, to have them burned and not just clamped or tied.
There have been a few instances of women getting pregnant after they have had that type of tubal and given my bodies history with children, that was a scary thought.

The freedom , no matter which you choose, is truly awesome.
