OGIONIK wrote:i gave you ample evidence that pitbulls are less prone to bite then even golden retrievers, are golden retrievers running around biting people?
I'm not aware of it. But if they are, you should feel free to start a new thread and post all of those newspaper articles about the vicious Golden Retriever maimings there.

I think it will seriously injure or kill an innocent. What do you think will happen?
then your problem is obviously with irresponsible owners.
which is the root of pitbull attacks.
wouldnt you say so?
No.
You sure seem quick to discount all of the accounts of pits that attack that have not been mistreated or trained to attack. I'm sure that's just your bias. You agree?
no.
we'll just call it a draw..
I've been watching Cesar Millan for hours today. Love the guy. Here's what he has to say on pitbulls. Doesn't mean that he has the monopoly on Truth, but I'm much more inclined to believe him than most others:
"My kids are around pit bulls every day. In the '70s they blamed Dobermans, in the '80s they blamed German shepherds, in the '90s they blamed the Rottweiler. Now they blame the pit bull."
- Cesar Millan
Pit bulls get a bad rap because of irresponsible owners. Many people consider the look or popularity of a breed before thinking about whether the dog works for their lifestyle. Please evaluate your lifestyle before taking on the responsibility of a pit bull.

Allowing you to soothe your conscience by assuming the reporter got it wrong?
Some areas around Albuquerque have banned pittbulls after particularly savage attacks on people and livestock. Yes, it is the rare pittbull that attacks, but the dogs have been bred as a fighting breed and it is believed by some, including breeders, vets, and others who have been consulted, that this is ingrained in their DNA.
Almost any pack dog that attacks will kill if encouraged by the pack itself. That's why feral dogs of almost any breed roaming the countryside in packs can become dangerous. A single dog is far less likely to be. And most dogs are bred to be domestic pets and while protective aggression or bites can occur in any breed, most will most often bite, turn loose and retreat.
According to the rationale used here to ban the breed, a pittbull will attack without backup from a pack and is even more aggressive with assistance of a pack. He will continue to attack and savage its prey until that prey is dead. Further, more than any other breed, it is far more likely that the most gentle and loving pet pittbug will have that killer dna kick in at an entirely unsuspected time. Almost all the cases here in which somebody, usually children, were horribly savaged and maimed by a pittbull, it was by a family pet that had never previously shown any previous aggressive tendencies.
I love all dogs and cannot bear to think of any animal being neglected or mistreated. That includes pittbulls. But given there are so many other breeds that are not famous for unprovoked deadly savage attacks to choose from, I do think pittbulls should be phased out and disappear.

I agree with you about this. Police have had to shoot and kill 3 pitbulls in 2 different incidents within the last couple of weeks here in WA State. That is just the ones I have come across.
@Foxfyre,
i have to disagree, phase out the best breed of dog?
insanity.
people just dont know wtf they are doing, like the "motorcycles are dangerous" bullshit.
who dies riding?
idiots, who dont know what they are doing.
and the occasional person hit by bad luck, or taking it to an extreme level.
to take my pit, you would have to kill me cold. or else ima kill you.
@OGIONIK,
i cant wait for my baby to turn on me.
oh wait, its not going to happen.

You are right. People created the "Pit Bull" aka "American Pit Bull Terrier" to fight. They have been known to turn on their owners. Hope yours nevers does.
