Izzie Smile

It has not hurt for at least a week now, but that's just because I've been easy on it. I'll be seing the Doc on the tenth. I'll most likely update you that weekend. It's all good  .

Hey! I said I'd update you about now;

I've had to reschedule the appointment for another day (other medical things). It's the twenty-fourth now. I'm not very optimistic that my regular doctor will be able to help much, but perhaps he knows a specialist whom he'll have me go see.

I've had the EXACT same problem! This is the only place on the internet that I've been able to find any help, so thank you Rainkeeper for posting about it.
The difference is that mine sometimes gets to a point where I do limp from it. But not usually.

It's my right foot, it hurts after I exercise, and then when I put pressure on it (standing up, going up/down stairs, mainly). The pain is on the top of my ankle too. There is no bruising, swelling, redness etc. My shoes are wearing evenly, and I have very good arches. So those are not problems for me.

So far I've just been wrapping it up, it feels good to put the pressure on it and give it a little more support. I've only just started doing that recently so I still have to wait and see if it will work.

Let me know what works for you, and if I find anything to work for me I'll let you know?

Jessi

For the last while I had been babying my foot and It wasn't getting any better. So I decided to try something else. I decided to use the foot more often in hopes of strengthening it. So I've been skipping, running, doing squats etc. (Things that mean I have to land on my foot and bend my ankle.) without favouring one foot over the other. Plus I've been stretching it both backwards and forwards as often as possible!

It hurt more for a couple of days but I didn't stop using my foot and worked through the pain. Fortunately it has been improving ever since. I haven't had to wear my wrap for about a week now and no limping!

So far this is working for me, if it stops working I'll let you know. However, don't do this unless you doctor says its a good idea, only because we are different people with different feet, what may work for me might not work for you. However it is an option and it's been working for me so far. Smile

Keep us up dated! I hope good news and a solution come from your appointment!

Jessi

Hey guys,

I told the doc that I felt what i called a "sort of warning pain" not a "hurt-hurt pain".

The doc felt my ankle and applied light pressure to different spots and pushed my foot down, up, and in all directions. Asked if I felt any pain while doing that. I didn't feel any pain during any of that.

The doc suggested that I place my foot on a football (soccer-ball) while sitting down and roll my ankle. The doc also suggested applying ice to it after workouts, and even before if I like. I had thought that ice was only meant to reduce swelling (which my ankle doesn't do) and to reduce pain. I don't care about the pain. Just about the ankle! However I trust this doc, and ice can't hurt; so thats what I'll do.

Jessi! So aggressive! Well if it works it works.
Good job mate. I hope this continues to work for you. Please let us know later on that it does. I think that it will.

Good point.
I intend to incline - I will stretch lots for at least a few days before I start running again. To strengthen it a wee bit, then a little bit with walking, than a lot with running. Those squats are a good idea. I won't do those until after I've begun the long power-walks though.
Ah.
Well anyways. I'm good. I know as much as I need to know now.

As Roger Mouse said:

I'm inclined to think your present plan is good. I think you might back off on the duration and intensity of the program. Also, consider the surfaces you are using for the jogging part. Concrete and gravel tracks are not good, though they usually affect knees and even hips before the ankle.

I usually walk on pavement (parking lot) as I'm away from my "The Styx" for some time. In the concrete jungle. I do most of my running on the treadmill though. I am not sure how the treadmill is when it comes to being hard on the joints. Probably about the same as running on pavement. I like the stationary bike, but while I'm sitting there pedaling I feel the: Uurgh I'm wasting time I could be progressing so much more if I were running!
Oh wow I've really gone on here haven't I.

Good luck, and to you too Izzie. How are your kicks doing? Smile Do tell.

Hello !

Wow, I was searching the internet for something related to ankle pain, and came to this page just like Jessi88. It sounds like something which I get too.

I practice a little bit of martial art in my school club and would stretch on a daily (or bidaily... is there such a word?) basis, and so far I do not have problems with joints or knees aching for this activity.

I've been having this ache thing for quite a while. I noticed that the inside of my right ankle would start hurting at the end of the day often after I have done a lot of -normal- walking in the day time. However what's interesting is that I have been hiking a lot for a school project in the previous semester, but my ankle often do not hurt even after a day of hiking. On the other hand sometimes it aches for no reason even on days when i do not walk a lot. The aches appears mostly in the evening. Now that I think about it, I wonder if it's the food I ate ? I'll take note of that from now on. Smile

Just like RK said, there's no swelling or anything. it's just a dull ache which seems to originate from the right side of my right ankle, but when i feel and prod it with my hand I can't quite pinpoint where the pain came from - it just feels like it's from the "inside" of my joint. sometimes it'd start aching for no apparent reason. Occasionally, my right knee joint seem to ache this way too, but i wouldn't be able to tell if it's the ankle pain radiating upwards, or if both of them are aching. Most of the time it's after a day of much walking.

I believe my arch is quite normal, and I wear sports shoes with air cushion soles most of the time when i go to school so. I doubt it's anything from a serious injury, so I don't really know what might cause this except some repetitive stress to certain tendons. Smile

Oops.. I'm really long winded for my first post >< Anyway, I really hope we find out what it is !

It's probably already been posted as I didn't read the entire thread, but soaking in warm water with epsom salts can help. Take ibuprofen for the pain. You may have inflammation you cannot see.
