Has there theme song been edited to not be gay?
Growing up I had a friend named Gay. I wonder if she goes by something else these days. "Hi, I'm Gay" could really leave people with the impression that she was giving out just a little too much information upon introduction.
Can we still use the word "gay" to mean "happy" or does it now strictly mean a homosexual man?
Just curious.
Thanks!
I had a teacher whos first name was Gay.
( she really WAS gay.. )
Yeah, the word 'gay' has gone the way of the words 'awful'--inspiring awe, and 'rape'--to seize and take away by force.
But, 'gay' is applicable to homosexuals in general.
When I was a kid, I knew a BOY named Gay....no kidding.
damn.

I had a teacher whose first name was Gay too -- and HE wasn't. I was always impressed by how secure he was, that he didn't behave all macho, like some tough guy.
I guess if you're a male named Gay, even if you ARE gay, you quickly learn to say "My name is Gay", not "I'm Gay".
If you were gay and you name is Gay and you met some gay people and said "I'm Gay" by way of introduction, well, I just don't know what the reaction would be. Something confusing I'm sure.
Although, that name could work in a males favor..."What! You're not going to hire me just because I'm Gay?!!!"
The parents of one of my friends named him Gayland. Imagine a kid having to go through school with that name!
One time a friend asked me to meet a woman frind of his in frot of the Boston Public library. He told me she would be blond and wearing a long lavender coat. I saw a woman matching that description and approached her asking "excuse me, ARE YOU GAY???"
Needless to say, that wasn't her. She arrived several minutes later.
I work with a woman named Gay. I never thought of this context -- it's just her name!
My sister's name is Yvonne Gay and I had a friend called Gay in grade 4.
If I were a guy named Gay, I'd change it to Gary or something. That would end all of Chai's endless maunderings on this topic ... hopefully.
at Chai.
I still have an innocent verbal storage corner for "gay abandon" and "gay blades"--to say nothing for great nostalgia for the old Gaiety Theatre...even though I've never been there.
According to About.com Gay was in the top 1,000 names for girls in the years between 1910 and 1970 (peaking in the 1940s at number 341).
In the 1970s it fell off the popularity list and hasn't reappeared.
It has never been in the top 1,000 names for boys.
I suppose people just don't want Gay boys.
