The above quotation talks about the fact that Europe used to produce many great thinkers, but now it is America that generates lots of new ideas.

In any field, thinking, trade, creation, there's always places considered to be the leaders. By metaphor, they are said to be the center of gravity.

The above, a quote from an article by James Harkin, is a play on words, in all seriousness, about the correlation between gravity and gravitas, which originally are the same...
