Books can be categorised under/into Fiction and Non-fiction.

I think it should be 'under'. Am I correct?

Many thanks.

Once again, I don't really know. I think, though, that we catagorize things into subtopics. It does sound more natural to file them under the various subtopics.

I don't think I've made a clear distinction. Why don't you ask easier questions?

In future, I will ask questions about rats. Your avatar is Rat if I'm not wrong.

Well, of course it's a rat. Do make it an easy question about rats, though.

Oh, I didn't mean that under was wrong. I was kind of going by what just sounded more natural, and then justifying my answer.

Since the sentence contains "books" in a general sense and the modal 'can' also seems to treat this in a general manner [it's possible for books to be ...], I'd have to agree with Roger and I think that he made an excellent distinction.

If this were someone talking in a library about where some books should be placed, 'under' would work.

These books should be categorised under [our headings of] Fiction and Non-fiction.
