Actually, I think my Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site comparison to Ground Zero stands as a pretty good one. I have done some reading about that during the past few years when the site was proposed for protection, including some of the talks with different groups about the site. If I am not mistaken, I believe a group of descendants or members of the tribe that trace back to what happened at Sand Creek were in fact in on the talks about the site and did provide input into the planning process for the National Park Service. In so doing, it gave them a feeling that they mattered, that they had some input into the processs, which was a very good thing.
The exact same principle applies to Ground Zero. The victims there have a higher degree of impact to their families and I believe it is important for them to know that they matter, their opinions matter. That does not mean that their suggestions have to be taken or even shold be taken to the letter or followed exactly, but it is much wiser to include them in the process and give their opinions due consideration in the planning process. I think that is simple common sense and it also shows a proper respect to those families that have suffered the most in the most direct way.
It would be interesting to research what has happened at the Pearl Harbor national historic parks, historical sites, and landmarks, whether the National Park Service obtained input from the families or veterans groups linked to those that died or served there, but it would not surprise me at all if they did. It would frankly surprise me more if they did not. If anyone has further information on that, it would of course be interesting and pertinent to the situation at Ground Zero.
Liberal whackos are now attempting to twist the Mosque issue and accuse Republicans of bigotry. Bigotry accusations by Democrats are frankly getting more than tiresome and frankly silly. Would the creators of those sites at Pearl Harbor been accused of bigotry following World War II? The answer is obviously not. The question looms for America, are there still enough common sense Americans to turn the tide against liberal whackoism, extremism, and radical thinking?
