I didn't know mamajuana, but from the tributes posted, I wish I had. However, in reading them, I have developed a deeper fondness for many of you. That this "virtual" community could hold such profound feelings for one of its members, sight unseen, says a very great deal.

I will join you for that cup of tea, Diane. Can one make a toast with a cup of tea? I think I shall.

To Mamajuana. (clink)

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And ne'er brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And days of auld lang syne?
And days of auld lang syne, my dear,
And days of auld lang syne.
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And days of auld lang syne?

We twa hae run aboot the braes
And pu'd the gowans fine.
We've wandered mony a weary foot,
Sin' auld lang syne.
Sin' auld lang syne, my dear,
Sin' auld lang syne,
We've wandered mony a weary foot,
Sin' auld ang syne.
We twa hae sported i' the burn,
From morning sun till dine,
But seas between us braid hae roared
Sin' auld lang syne.
Sin' auld lang syne, my dear,
Sin' auld lang syne.
But seas between us braid hae roared
Sin' auld lang syne.

And ther's a hand, my trusty friend,
And gie's a hand o' thine;
We'll tak' a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.
For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We'll tak' a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

I don't often sing the same song on two threads ... Hope I haven't offended, but its about the way I feel, as close as I can manage on the web.

Ok, music time on a Saturday night:

Then she dances so graceful
and your heart's hard and hateful
and she's naked
but that's just a tease.
And you turn in disgust
from your hatred and from your love
and comes to you
light as the breeze.

O baby I waited
so long for your kiss
for something to happen,
oh something like this.

There's blood on every bracelet
you can see it, you can taste it,
and it's Please baby
please baby please.
And she says, Drink deeply, pilgrim
but don't forget there's still a woman
beneath this
resplendent chemise.

So I knelt there at the delta,
at the alpha and the omega,
I knelt there like one who believes.
And the blessings come from heaven
and for something like a second
I'm cured and my heart
is at ease

I feel like something a little jazzy tonight.

Oh look, Leon Redbone is here! Are you gonna sing that song I like so much, Leon? It would be perfect for Cafe' 101!

------------------------

I want to be seduced
Want a woman to take me out to dinner for two
Like to see her eyes get moody
Flirtin' with the thought of what flirtin' ought to do

Like to be real cool
Let her think about gettin' little me in bed
Have a chat about Magna Carta, Puerto Vallarta
Somethin' Gandhi said
I might demur politely, falter slightly
If she tried to fondle my knee
But I'm relatively certain I'd compromise if I know me

I want to be seduced
Want a woman to talk to me suggestively
Want to hear her say she'll be with me tomorrow morning
Drinkin' hot jasmine tea
Want her to make me laugh
Make a point of touching me when she talks
Leavin' all the jealous men in the joint
To mumblin' in their beer and gawk

I know it only happens when I'm nappin'
Noddin' in a reverie
That I find myself a woman who wouldn't mind seducing me

I know it only happens when I'm nappin'
Noddin' in a reverie
That I find myself a woman who wouldn't mind seducing...
Startin' from the moment that we've been introduced...
I'd like to find a woman who wouldn't mind seducing me

Late night and early morning low clouds
With a chance of fog
Chance of showers into the afternoon
With variable high cloudiness
And gusty winds, gusty winds
At times around the corner of
Sunset and alvorado
Things are tough all over
When the thunder storms start
Increasing over the southeast
And south central portions
Of my apartment, I get upset
And a line of thunderstorms was
Developing in the early morning
Ahead of a slow moving coldfront
Cold blooded
With tornado watches issued shortly
Before noon sunday, for the areas
Including, the western region
Of my mental health
And the northern portions of my
Ability to deal rationally with my
Disconcerted precarious emotional
Situation, it's cold out there
Colder than a ticket taker's smile
At the ivar theatre, on a saturday night
Flash flood watches covered the
Southern portion of my disposition
There was no severe weather well
Into the afternoon, except for a lone gust of
Wind in the bedroom
In a high pressure zone, covering the eastern
Portion of a small suburban community
With a 103 and millibar high pressure zone
And a weak pressure ridge extending from
My eyes down to my cheeks cause since
You left me baby
And put the vice grips on my mental health
Well the extended outlook for an
Indefinite period of time until you
Come back to me baby is high tonight
Low tomorrow, and precipitation is
Expected

Wonderful roll...............Chambord please with bubbles......and now:

So we're drinking and we're dancing
And the band is really happening
And the Johnny Walker wisdom running high
And my very sweet companion
She's the Angel of Compassion
And she's rubbing half the world against her thigh
Every drinker every dancer
Lifts a happy face to thank her
And the fiddler fiddles something so sublime
All the women tear their blouses off
The men they dance on the polka-dots
And it's partner found and partner lost
And it's hell to pay when the fiddler stops
It's closing time

We're lonely, we're romantic
And the cider's laced with acid
And the Holy Spirit's crying, 'Where's the beef?'
And the moon is swimming naked
And the summer night is fragrant
With a mighty expectation of relief
So we struggle and we stagger
Down the snakes and up the ladder
To the tower where the blessed hours chime
And I swear it happened just like this
A sigh, a cry, a hungry kiss
The Gates of Love they budged an inch
I can't say much has happened since
But closing time

I loved you for your beauty
But that doesn't make a fool of me
You were in it for your beauty too
I loved you for your body
There's a voice that sounds like God to me
Declaring that your body's really you
I loved you when our love was blessed
And I love you now there's nothing left
But sorrow and a sense of overtime
And I miss you since the place got wrecked
By the winds of change and the weeds of sex
Looks like freedom but it feels like death
It something in betwen, I guess
It's closing time

We're drinking and we're dancing
But there's nothing really happening
The place is dead as Heaven on a Saturday night
And my very close companion
Gets me fumbling gets me laughing
She's a hundred but she's wearing
Something tight
I lift my glass to the awful truth
Which you can't reveal to the ears of youth
Except to say it isn't worth a dime
And the whole dam place goes crazy twice
And it's once for the Dvil and it's once for Christ
But the boss don't like these dizzy heights
We're busted in the blinding lights
Of closing time

Suzanne takes you down to her place near the river
You can hear the boats go by
You can spend the night beside her
And you know that she's half crazy
But that's why you want to be there
And she feeds you tea and oranges
That come all the way from China
And just when you mean to tell her
That you have no love to give her
Then she gets you on her wavelength
And she lets the river answer
That you've always been her lover
And you want to travel with her
And you want to travel blind
And you know that she will trust you
For you've touched her perfect body with your mind.
And Jesus was a sailor
When he walked upon the water
And he spent a long time watching
From his lonely wooden tower
And when he knew for certain
Only drowning men could see him
He said "All men will be sailors then
Until the sea shall free them"
But he himself was broken
Long before the sky would open
Forsaken, almost human
He sank beneath your wisdom like a stone
And you want to travel with him
And you want to travel blind
And you think maybe you'll trust him
For he's touched your perfect body with his mind.

Now Suzanne takes your hand
And she leads you to the river
She is wearing rags and feathers
From Salvation Army counters
And the sun pours down like honey
On our lady of the harbour
And she shows you where to look
Among the garbage and the flowers
There are heroes in the seaweed
There are children in the morning
They are leaning out for love
And they will lean that way forever
While Suzanne holds the mirror
And you want to travel with her
And you want to travel blind
And you know that you can trust her
For she's touched your perfect body with her mind.

I love this song, Timber.............and Eva, very nice choice, appropriate, yes.....

So, I'm going to bed now. Good night all. See you tomorrow.

If you want a lover
I'll do anything you ask me to
And if you want another kind of love
I'll wear a mask for you
If you want a partner
Take my hand
Or if you want to strike me down in anger
Here i stand
I'm your man

If you want a boxer
I will step into the ring for you
And if you want a doctor
I'll examine every inch of you
If you want a driver
Climb inside
Or if you want to take me for a ride
You know you can
I'm your man

Ah, the moon's too bright
The chain's too tight
The beast won't go to sleep
I've been running through these promises to you
That i made and i could not keep
Ah but a man never got a woman back
Not by begging on his knees
Or i'd crawl to you baby
And i'd fall at your feet
And i'd howl at your beauty
Like a dog in heat
And i'd claw at your heart
And i'd tear at your sheet
I'd say please, please
I'm your man

And if you've got to sleep
A moment on the road
I will steer for you
And if you want to work the street alone
I'll disappear for you
If you want a father for your child
Or only want to walk with me a while
Across the sand
I'm your man

If you want a lover
I'll do anything you ask me to
And if you want another kind of love
I'll wear a mask for you

Ice Cream Man

I'll be clickin' by your house about two forty-five
Sidewalk sundae strawberry surprise,
I got a cherry popsicle right on time
A big stick, mamma, that'll blow your mind

Cause I'm the ice cream man, I'm a one-man band (yeah)
I'm the ice cream man, honey, I'll be good to you.

Baby, missed me in the alley, baby, don't you fret
Come back around and don't forget,
When you're tired and you're hungry and you want something cool,
Got something better than a swimming pool

Cause I'm the ice cream man, I'm a one-man band
I'm the ice cream man, honey, I'll be good to you.
Cause I'm the ice cream man, I'm a one-man band
I'm the ice cream man, honey, I'll be good to you.

See me coming, you ain't got no change
Don't worry baby, it can be arranged:
Show me you can smile, baby just for me
Fix you with a drumstick, I'll do it for free

Cause I'm the ice cream man, I'm a one-man band
I'm the ice cream man, honey, I'll be good to you.
Be good to you, be good to you,
Good to you yeah, good to you yeah, good to you yeah, good to you yeah,
Good to you yeah, good to you, I'll be good to you, I'll be good to you...

Night Drive
Yellowhead highway

How bright the stars
How dark the night
How long have I been sleeping?
Sleep overtook me on my westward flight
Held me in its keeping
I had a dream; it seemed so real
Its passing left me shaking
I saw you're here behind the wheel
On this very road I'm taking

Hurtling westward through the prairie night
Under the spell of motion
Your eyes were clear and bright in the dashboard light
Dreaming of the western ocean
The dusty towns left far behind
Mountains drawing ever nearer
Your face was then as it was tonight
Ever young
Ever clearer

I know this road
And its every curve
Where the hills commence their climbing
We rested here
If my memory serves
The northern lights were shining
You lit a smoke
We shared some wine
We watched the sky in wonder
Your laughter echoes after all this time
In that high and wild blue yonder

I don't know why I write these lines
It's not like I could send you the letter
It's that I love your more after all this time
It's that I wish I'd shown you better
Years have slipped
Beneath my wheels
Dwindling in my rear view mirror
As time has passed
Your life has seemed less real
But these night drives bring you nearer

So tonight I'll wish upon these stars
As they rise upward to guide me
That I'll see you here just as you are
Now, as then, beside me
Scares me how the years have flown
Like the leaves drift in September
They've lost sight of you as your legacy's grown
But this road and I
We remember

Ahhhhh, Mikey........beautiful........

<Lola sits down on the sofa and attempts to pull the saran wrap off the book that came in the mail 4 and a half months ago...........before the move. The wrap is wound tightly and Lola has to use her fingernails to find the beginning so it will unravel..........easy (or should be). The saran wrap, [or I should say plastic wrap] had been wrapped so tightly by someone Lola had never met before. The book and the plastic wrap person and Lola had come together in this brief encounter by way of Ebay. And this is all she knows of him, that he wraps his merchandise with care and precision.

But who ever had wrapped it up, whether it was a he or a she, had done a great job, making it almost impossible to get to the book inside without asking Wassau to bring a kitchen knife. Lola knows some folks get nervous when she has a knife in her hand, so she calls to Wassau and asks for a pair of scissors instead.

Finally, inside, Lola opens the faded front paper cover of the book. There, in blue ink is written,

"To Peter,
With Best Wishes."
And it's signed, "Jay" and then,

"Merry Christmas, Flag Day etc."

It's dated 12/77 >

Well, now there's something more to go on than simple plastic wrap, so tight. Peter and Jay must have been friends in 77, and there was something about Flag Day and more too.............

<But about the "more" there are no clues.>

I wonder why Jay gave Peter's gift away, or sold it to me for $1.88? Maybe they had a fight and Peter has been angry at Jay for years. Or the friendship is long ago forgotten........no longer important. Or maybe Peter never really liked Jay, and Jay had been mistaken to believe he did. They might be cousins or college buddies or lovers. Who knows.

<Finally the wrapping is off and Lola sits back to read. Mikey and the rest ask Lola to read out loud on this Sunday afternoon.>

"As mechanical as a flight of stairs,
as solemn as a flight of stairs,
they have found each other after years
of looking."
