hey all,

I have the following sentence:

' The result may be the drying up of the imaginations of the people on which we depend'

I can't get the meaning of "drying up the imaginations"

Could you please help me ?

They lose their ability to imagine. Simple as that.

It is called a "metaphor". Streams, rivers and lakes "dry up", and after that there is no more water.

When your imagination "dries up" you will have no more original thoughts.
