My son Jeremy is a genius with duct tape. A few years ago he used duct tape to make prom outfits for himself and his date.

My kids use it to make baseballs to use in the house, then they bat them around with those cardboard paper towel centers.

Drives me crazy......it never fails, I need the tape to engineer something, and its wadded up in the floor having been used for baseballs!

The BRATS!!! LOL

Isolierband

i know good old-fashioned "isolierband" , called "insulating tape" in english

duct tape is a little different :

http://www.rpconline.com/catalog/content/images/tape_duct.jpg

it's an extremely strong and sticky tape . once it's stuck together , it's very difficult to pull apart .
i doubt that "isolierband" would hold a person up on the wall Laughing
it's one of the "fun things" students like to do - stick a fellow to the wall !

i don't think you can make a dress out of "isolierband" - unless it's changed from the stuff i have in the workroom .

Duct tape
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A roll of silver duct tape.Duct tape, in the USA and Canada, is a vinyl, fabric-reinforced, multi-purpose adhesive tape with a soft and tacky pressure sensitive adhesive. It is generally silver or black in color (although often green in the UK) but many other colors and transparent tapes have recently become available. With a standard width of 17⁄8 inches (48 mm), duct tape was originally developed during World War II in 1942 as a waterproof sealing tape for ammunition cases.[1][2] Permacel, then a division of Johnson & Johnson, used a rubber-based adhesive to help the tape resist water and a fabric backing to facilitate ripping. Because of these properties, it was also used to quickly repair military equipment, including jeeps, guns, and aircraft. In Canadian military circles, this variant is known as "gun-tape", typically olive-green, and also known for its resistance to oils and greases. Duct tape is also called "100-MPH tape" in the military [3], due to the fact that soldiers often refer to something that exceeds expectations as "High Speed."

After the war, the housing industry boomed and people started using duct tape for many other purposes. The name "duct tape" came from its use on heating and air conditioning ducts, a purpose for which it, ironically, has been deemed ineffective. Its strength, low cost, and remarkable versatility make it a household staple throughout the USA for temporary repairs and general-purpose use.

is it Duct or Duck? We don't want you to be confused, so we will explain. The first name for Duct Tape was DUCK. During World War II the U.S. Military needed a waterproof tape to keep the moisture out of ammunition cases. So, they enlisted the Johnson and Johnson Permacel Division to manufacture the tape. Because it was waterproof, everyone referred to it as "duck" tape (like water off a duck's back). Military personnel discovered that the tape was good for lots more than keeping out water. They used it for Jeep repair, fixing stuff on their guns, strapping equipment to their clothing... the list is endless.

After the War, the housing industry was booming and someone discovered that the tape was great for joining the heating and air conditioning duct work. So, the color was changed from army green to the silvery color we are familiar with today and people started to refer to it as "duct tape*." Therefore, either name is appropriate.

hamburger, there is actually just the term Isolierband in Germany for all different kinds of tape. I know that a lot of people who use it regularly call it Guffa tape, though.

Gaffer tape

Gaffer tape, sometimes shortened to gaff tape (especially by theater and photographic professionals), or made possessive, as "gaffer's tape", is a strong, pressure-sensitive, cotton cloth adhesive tape. It is an essential, all-purpose tool on theater, film and television productions as well as live performances and any other kind of stage work

It is likely named for the gaffer, the head of the lighting department on a film crew.

here in busherica (not much longer) gaff tape and duct tape are two different things. Gaff tape is considerably more expensive... but because it's so much wider and comes up easily I use it on the gig whenever possible.
