secretsinner- Welcome to A2K! Very Happy

So you got arrested. The important thing is that there were no serious ramifications. Obviously, what you thought that you did was rotten, and I am not going to give you any sympathy. You screwed up, and your conscience is troubling you.

Well, that is what a conscience is supposed to do. If you weren't troubled by what you did, then IMO it would be a cause to worry. Decent people know when they have screwed up, and are affected by that knowledge.

You can proceed in a couple of ways. Either you can spend the time "dissing" yourself, which solves nothing, and simply makes you more vulnerable to doing unsavory things. Or, you can use the experience to help you understand what happened, and to make sure that it does not happen again.

I would suspect that the vast majority of us have done something in their lives that they regret, big time. Those who have gotten beyond the incident, and have used the knowledge of what happened to help them with future decisions, have learned something very valuable.

Use the experience to help you grow as a person. Don't waste time agonizing about it. Good luck!

Secretsinner--

I'm with Phoenix. Most of us have been damn fools at some time in our lives and most of us have learned to live with the consequences of our choices.

Was your offense impulsive stupidity or calculated stupidity?

Has your arrest caused any practical problems in the short term?

Pheonix has the good point-- no serious ramifications.

I've often done some of my stupidest things when feeling lowdown or angry-- so maybe talking to a good shrink might help?

Sometimes just getting some of whatever it is out of your system by talking helps enormously.

....
well thanks for the help so far
I appreciate your hard and level headed comments which sets me straight.
This incident was a huuuuuge wake up call for me and I am determined to take the latter suggestion from pheonix...thank you.

I will be referred to a shrink but that would be to just help me out.
Right now things are cooling down and soon enough I will be able to get on with my life.....luckily enough for me there are no long term ramifications that could affect the rest of my life for which I am eternally grateful.

thanks for the comments I needed the hard truth.

secretsinner- You are going to be o.k. Just work to understand why you did what you did. That is where a shrink might be helpful, as often the motivations behind a person's behavior can often be elusive to that person.

You are going to come out of this a stronger and better person. In fact, years from now, you may just perceive the incident as a positive turning point in your life.

Folk wisdom says that alcoholics have to hit bottom before they can be helped--or decide to help themselves.

So do damn fools.

How does the coffee smell this morning? Right now you're wide awake and this is a Good Thing.
