You don't get help from them without morgageing your career to the machine. As a southern illinoian I think I know more about the crooked politicians in Illinois than most of you. Most of the illinois politicians who are in or on their way to jail are from the Chicago part of the state. So why don't all you genuses do some checking on facts yourselves. I have been living them for 72 years in this state and unable to do anything about it because the southern part of the state has a minority of the population.
You forgot to add: "And you damn kids get off my lawn!!"
Really, this is just silly. As others have pointed out, Obama was initially opposed by the Daley organization (to call it a "machine" would be far too generous), both when Obama ran for the Illinois senate and then when he ran for the US senate (Daley backed Dan Hynes in the 2004 Democratic primary -- Hynes is now the state comptroller and is backing Obama for the presidency, no doubt because he wants to be appointed to Obama's senate seat). Daley only backed Obama after he'd been elected, following the age-old political maxim "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em."
As for all the corrupt Illinois politicians coming from Chicago,
rabel ignores the rich and colorful history of those downstate scoundrels and rascals who have darkened the pages of Illinois history. Paul Powell, of shoebox fame, was from downstate Vienna (pronounced vi-EN-uh by the local rubeoisie). Former governor George Ryan is from Kankakee, although he currently resides in the federal prison in Oxford, Wisconsin. And we can't forget retiring congressman Jerry Weller of Morris, whose crooked land deals in Nicaragua and his association with Jack Abramoff have earned him the reputation as one of the most corrupt politicians in congress today. He will be missed.
