The concept of a final "Theory of Everything" based on one overlooked unifying physical principle has been a main goal of physics for centuries, but no scientifically credible proposals have ever arisen, tarnishing this critical pursuit.
Which sense of "critical" is used in "crtitical pursuit"?
urgently needed; absolutely necessary; "a critical element of the plan"; "critical medical supplies"; "vital for a healthy society"; "of vital interest"
