Sirens?

I have only the vaguest recollection of that movie, but I seem to remember Hugh Grant played an artist in it...

Sirens is correct. Sam Neill was the artist, and Hugh Grant and Tara Fitzgerald were the visiting minister and wife.

Oops... well, I said I had only the vaguest recollection of the movie!

Newbie
A young woman is taking a bath in a bathtub concealed behind a curtain in the kitchen of her family's home. Two young men who have just met the rest of her family for the first time come into the kitchen and, without realizing that she's there, start talking about how eccentric her family is.

It's a very new newbie (released earlier this year), and is based on a novel that's a cult favorite among many young women. The first sentence of the book (which is narrated by the young woman in the bathtub) is "I write this sitting in the kitchen sink."

You got it, Lightwizard! Good movie, even better book, by Dodie Smith, who also wrote 101 Dalmatians. Tara Fitzgerald, who played the girls' stepmother, was a tie-in to Sirens.

The kitchen sink gave it away.

Newbie:

People are cheering as bulldozers mow down orange trees. There is a large banner heralding the future: "On this site: The World's Biggest Amusement Park." Cartoon characters dance among the fallen trees.
