Thanks for the interesting movie comments.

If Mac had to cover her eyes during some King Kong scenes, I know for a fact I won't be watching it when it comes to cable.

Have any of you seen Brokeback Mountain or Crash?

I saw Brokeback Mountain, and liked it. I missed Crash, and I'm sorry I did.

I am also sorry I missed "Crash". (My wife talked me into seeing "Brokeback Mountain" with her. I had to close my eyes once or twice but I thought the film was excellent.)

I'd rather not say. (sorry, raggedy)

My wife didn't find it necessary to close her eyes, however.

That's OK, Wandeljw.

I never see the movies before the Oscar ceremony so I appreciate hearing what others think about them.

The 78th Annual Academy Awards - Sunday, March 5 http://www.cinematical.com/images/2005/07/oscar.jpg

I haven't seen any of the nominated movies. If you get a chance, I'd be interested in knowing how you feel about the results. Smile

Same here. I'm rooting for Capote, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Felicity Huffman, and Amy Adams (I don't really have a preference in the best supporting actor category), but I wouldn't mind if Brokeback Mountain won for best picture or Reese Witherspoon for best actress. (I won't say who I'm rooting against, because that would be uncharitable and therefore out of keeping with the spirit of this thread.)

Very Happy

I'm not rooting for anybody, just looking forward to the event. I missed a couple of contenders: Syriana and June Bug, but I think I saw all the others. (Well, not the documentaries or the foreign films.)

I recommend putting Junebug on your Netflix queue: it was one of my favorite movies of 2005.

I can't say the same for Syriana, but if you do catch up with it eventually, I have some questions about it (basically, "What the hell happened?").

Laughing at Bree's comment.

Hi Mac. Like you I'm just looking forward to the event, but I am rooting for David Strathairn just because I like him and the character he played and I have to root for someone.

Both Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock are scheduled presenters in tonight's oscar ceremony. I will be curious to see if they promote "The Lake House" which they had filmed together in Chicago last summer.

eoe,

They filmed in various parts of Chicago. My 23 year old daughter worked as an extra in a restaurant scene that was filmed in The Park Grille at Millenium Park. (The filming was done late at night and continued until about 3:00 in the morning.)

Did you enjoy the Oscars?

As I mentioned earlier, I didn't see any of the nominated movies, but I guessed correctly that Philip Seymour Hoffman and Reese Witherspoon would win. However, "Crash" came as a complete surprise. I placed my bet on "Brokeback Mountain".

I got a kick out of Lily Tomlin and Merle Streep.

Were you familiar with any of the nominated songs?

I did enjoy the Oscars. Crash was a surprise - I was sure Brokeback would win. Oh, and who'd have thunk a rap song could win best song?

That is still the biggest surprise of the night IMO. I saw "Hustle & Flow" with my sister last summer (we've been watching Terrence Howard's career for a few years now) and "Hard Out Here for a Pimp" is indeed a catchy little ditty but we were too tickled when it was actually nominated for an Oscar and joked for two months about who would perform it on the show. And how??? When it won on Sunday, I screamed and called her. She was too stunned to speak.

Thanks WandelJ

A surprise for me was that "Memoirs of a Geisha" won for cinematography against difficult competition.

I only saw 3 movies that were nominated: "Brokeback Mountain", "Memoirs of a Geisha" and "Wallace and Gromit".

(I thought Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock looked good together. It was a subtle promotion for "The Lake House" which is now scheduled to open on June 16.)
