When I saw Frank Langella in "Dracula" on Broadway, someone took a flash photograph of him as he made his entrance. He stopped, looked at the audience, and said something like, "I'm going to go offstage and make my entrance again. If anyone takes another photograph for the rest of the performance, I'll leave the stage -- and I won't come back." Needless to say, no one took any more photos.

Ok, bree, this is weird. Before I clicked on this page, I was remembering a story about Frank Langella scolding the audience, but I don't remember where I heard it. I just did a search, and you haven't told that here. Maybe I remember it from Abuzz?

By the way, I saw Good Night and Good Luck today (we were released early from work). It was good to see Langella in that, as well as the rest of the excellent cast.

Frank Langella. Oh baby, back in his Dracula days he was quite fine. And he still is. Just older and thicker now, like most of us. Rolling Eyes

I couldn't agree more, eoe.

And mac, it's distinctly possible I told that story on Abuzz. It made quite an impression on me at the time.

Thought I'd say Happy Birthday to:

If you take two words from a Mickey Rooney movie title and one word from a John Gilbert movie, you'll get a movie adapted from a novel that Ed Harris appeared in.

Mickey Rooney (two words) + John Gilbert (one word)

Would that be:

The Human Comedy (Rooney) + The Yellow Stain (Gilbert)

And, of course, as always, you are correct Bree. I thought Anthony Hopkins gave a great performance in "The Human Stain".

Saroyan's "The Human Comedy" was one of my favorite movies and books when I was a teenager.

Going right now to add The Human Stain to my Netflix queue. I missed that one.

I guess it's my turn to ask the next question. If you take one word from a Greer Garson movie title and one word from a Fredric March movie title, you'll get the title of a movie adapted from a novel.

Greer Garson (1) + Fredric March (1)

My first thought was "Strange Days", but no. That was a screenplay. Then I thought of "Madame Sin", but that, too, was a screenplay.

So, back to the drawing board.

Want a hint?

Just as I was going to accept your offer of a hint, it dawned on me.

Philip Roth tie-in.

Goodbye, Mr. Chips (Garson) + Christopher Columbus (March)

(I had forgotten that Philip Roth was once married to Claire Bloom.)

Now, I'm curious as to what your hint would have been. I love those hints.

Yes, it's up to 70 or 80 movies. I occasionally look at the whole thing and delete ones I've caught on TV...

I loved Goodbye, Columbus, but I think I remember the book (short story?) better than the movie.

It wouldn't have been a terribly clever hint, Raggedy -- I was only going to say (as you figured out) that the movie was a tie-in to the movie in the previous question.

mac, I've got to get a DVD player one of these days. Someone just told me that a DVD of Barbara Cook's appearances on the Bell Telephone Hour in the 1960's has recently been released (and, unfortunately, it isn't available in videocassette format).

And the downside of having a DVD/VHS recorder is that I can't copy any DVDs that are sold or rented. They are all copy protected. At one time I could copy a rented VHS tape, but not so with DVDs. So, I have to wait until they come on TV.

Hey Mac.

I'm thinking of you. I'm recording "Local Hero" and the scenery (Scotland) is absolutely breathtaking. If you haven't seen that one, do try.

Local Hero is lovely, but I haven't seen it forever. I think it's hilarious that you thought of me! Very Happy

Mac: It's only natural that I would think of you when I see Scotland. Are you not the Heather on the Hill girl and do you not wish you could take a trip to Scotland? Very Happy
