Thanks for the article, bree.

"Sir Ben said that he has never seen "Oliver!" and has not seen Lean's version since childhood. He said that his portrayal of Fagin was in no way a response to the Guinness interpretation; and he said he was unaware of the controversy that surrounded his predecessor's portrayal of Fagin. "

And neither was I aware of the controversy surrounding Guinness' portrayal. I, too, was quite young when I saw it, but I remember that I was impressed and a little frightened. John Howard Davies (Oliver) was the image of the illustration on the cover of my book (Children's Illustrated Classics) and Robert Newton was terrifying. I was mostly concerned about the treatment of children in the orphanage as my mother spent several years in one, a subject she refused to discuss.

Lost Horizon is correct.

My first real date was with the boy across the street who took me to see "Beyond the Blue Horizon". He bought candy, too. I loved that movie.

Where have I heard that expression before?

I think that people of your mother's generation had the attitude that, the less said about disturbing experiences, the better -- they didn't see any point in talking about those experiences because they didn't think it helped to do so. Very different from today's attitude (although I personally think the old point of view might have been more accurate).

Enough philosophizing -- off to think up a new question.

Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm

If I'm right, it's NCS again, because I was going to use that one -- changed my mind at the last minute, and decided to use anohter Daphne du Maurier novel instead!

Yes, thanks for the article, bree. I loved some of Sir Ben's remarks in that. I was also unaware of the controversy, but am greatly looking forward to the new film.

Good Morning:

The Last Samurai (Cruise) + The Rocky Horror Picture Show (Sarandon)

(I was surprised that Cruise was only in 29 movies. )

Was A2K just down for a few minutes? There seems to be a lot of that kind of thing going around.

The Last Picture Show is correct.

I was surprised, too, at how few movies Tom Cruise has been in. Aren't you glad I didn't use any of the more prolific actors who have been in movies with "The Last" in the title?

I just had trouble getting here too. When the site gets more traffic than it can handle, it blocks everyone for a few minutes. Or at least, that's how I understand it.

I've been working on this question all day (on and off), and the best I can come up with is this, which I'm sure isn't right but which will maybe get me a clue:

Alexander the Great + The Klansman

I found that, when you play mix and match with the titles of Richard Burton movies, you can create all sorts of titles which sound like they should have been movies but weren't. For example:

The Desert Rats + Prince of Players (wasn't Rudolph Valentino in that?)
