I can easily believe that they would ask Jim Dale to perform on the Tony Awards. He does an excellent job on the Harry Potter audiotapes. His range in voice impression, dialect, and characterization is amazing.

I meant to say I think I saw him prior to or when he received the Tony for Barnum. Very Happy

I hope you all had a pleasant long weekend and that the dreadful first day back at work wasn't too harrowing.

It's not my turn, but I thought this thread could use a little boost. Smile I was thinking about this musical guy this morning:

Maureen O'Sullivan - (one word from title)

James Cagney (one word from title) + John Malkovich (One word from title) + Mel Gibson (One word from title)

Sarah Jessica Parker (One word from title) + Brandon DeWilde (Three words from title) with Sean Connery (One word from title)

Robert Pine (Title) + Kathryn Grayson (Two words from title)

Thanks for the boost! I just got out of an all-morning meeting, and will start working on your question now.

Very Happy

I'm watchng "Seabiscuit second time around. I love it.

The movie states that contrary to public belief there were no suicides on Wall Street when the Stock Market crashed, but there was one in Pittsburgh - not on that day, but shortly thereafter - an architect that my mother worked for plunged from a window in his office to his death.

It's nice to see you both. Whenever you post on Add-a-letter, please imagine me waving and saying hello in return. I "see" you both there much more often than here.

I did survive the weekend, but am finding being back at work to be quite a grind. Maybe I just need more sleep...

I meant to say in that post - how awful about the architect that your mom knew, Raggedy.

There may not have been people jumping out windows in NY, but there were so many people whose lives were ruined - and lots of suicides, I'm sure.

Hi Mac. After you watch Jeopardy this evening, turn the TV off, shut down the computer and crawl into bed for a long summer's nap. Laughing

Hi, mac - waving right back at you!

That is terrible about the architect your mother knew, Raggedy. From what I've read about Cinderella Man, which opens this week, it sounds like a pretty graphic depiction of the effect the Depression had on people's lives. It's gotten great reviews, but I'm not sure if I'm ready for another boxing movie, right after Million Dollar Baby.

And now to Raggedy's question. You must have somehow sensed that, as I walked from the dentist's office to the subway this morning, my route took me past the Dakota, and I felt that chill I always feel when I walk down that block and remember that it's where John Lennon was shot. Also, the radio in the dentist's office was tuned to an oldies station, and one of the songs they played this morning was "We Can Work It Out" (which prompted the hygienist to mention that she was in elementary school when she first heard the song).

Just Imagine (Maureen O'Sullivan)

Strawberry Blonde (James Cagney) + The Killing Fields (John Malkovich) + Forever Young (Mel Gibson)

If Lucy Fell (Sarah Jessica Parker) + Wild in the Sky (Brandon DeWilde) with Diamonds Are Forever (Sean Connery)

All You Need (Robert Pine) + So This is Love (Kathryn Grayson)

And quite an appropriate song for the dentist's office - We Can Work It Out.
I just made an appointment with the dentist for Friday. Toothache started this morning. What time did you leave the dentist's office. (lol)

I left the dentist's office around 10 a.m. (that "all-morning meeting" I mentioned earlier actually started at 10:30). Good luck with the tooth.

Strangely, I had been working on a new question before you posted yours, and one of the movies I was thinking of using was used in your question. I'll post my question as soon as I can think of a replacement for the movie you used!

Oh, I can't blame you then. My toothache started after you returned from the dentist.

Which movie were you going to use? Strawberry Blonde?

Exactly! How did you guess?

I'm working on a different idea now, but keeping one eye on the game, so it may take a while.

EsP, Bree. ESP.

But seriously, I've got a feeling John Lennon is haunting my house. After posting here, I decided to watch some unlabeled VHS tapes for the purpose of recording certain segments (some of my tapes are a jumbled mess) to DVD. The first thing that came up was (shiver) a scene from Quantum Leap, with Scott Bakula, (playing a character who is transported back in time) talking to a young girl about the Beatles. He tells her that one of the Beatles will record a song she hasn't heard yet and proceeds to play guitar and sing "Imagine". He's about to tell her that Lennon will die, but is advised by another character in the show (Dean Stockwell) not to divulge that information. It's a very poignant and chilling scene.

I turned the DVD player off when Jeopardy came on and decided to listen to and organize some of my unlabeled music cassettes. So, what was the first song that I heard? John Lennon singing "Imagine". Shocked

Out of 200 or more of each of those tapes, I picked the ones, video and music, with John Lennon. If I had been searching for him, I'd have never found the tapes.

Very spooky! Shakespeare was probably thinking of something just like that story when he wrote:

"There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio,
Than are dreamt of in your philosophy."

I don't think we've done these two musical guys before, which (if I'm right about that, which the keeper of the lists will know) is surprising, since they're among my favorites.

Jerry Orbach (one word from title) + Warner Baxter (three words from title)

Lizabeth Scott (one word from title) + Irene Dunne (one word from title)

Robert Cummings (two words from title) + the Richard Widmark (three words from title) + Hermione Gingold (one word from title)

Tracey Ullman (two words from title) + Ronald Reagan (title)

A Ann Sheridan (two words from title) + Regis Toomey (two words from title)

And for bonus points: name a movie (unrelated to the theme of this question) in which three of the above-named actors appeared together.

We did Arthur Schwartz, but not "Dietz and Schwartz." I recall trying to find movie titles for "Something To Remember You By", one of my favorites.

Oh, I like your selection of movie stars. Very Happy

Here's what I have so far:

Dirty Dancing (Jerry Orbach) and Lady in the Dark (Warner Baxter)

I Walk Alone (Lizabeth scott) and Together Again (Irene Dunne)

I Love You to Death (Tracey Ullman) and Louisa (Ronald Reagan)

I'll post the other two tomorrow AM so you can go to bed early. (lol)

Oh, I hope the Yankees (you are watching them?) are Ronald Reagan.

Three down, two to go! I'll check in tomorrow for the last two.

Yes, I was watching the Yankees, but unfortunately they were not The Winning Team tonight. In fact, they lost to Kansas City, which has the worst record in the league.

Going to bed early sounds like a good suggestion -- see you tomorrow.

Sweet dreams and hopefully not about John Lennon. (lol)

I was wondering why the extra A was there. I thought it was a typo. (lol)

A Shine on [/b]Harvest Moon (Ann Sheridan) + I Wouldn't Be In Your Shoes (Regis Toomey)
