Yes thanks for that link, bree. I don't know the play, but enjoyed the civilized discussion of it.
Oh, darn, a page flip!
A Real Life Senator
A Pilot
A farmer
Airport Executive
I'm stuck. I'm assuming that none of these characters are from a TV movie?
Three desperate guesses:
1.George Kennedy -
Concorde - Airport '79 - Pilot
(Guess who else was in that one. (Andrea Marcovicci and John Davidson as the love interest. )
Airport 77 - Airport Exec.
2. Jimmy Stewart -
Shenandoah - Farmer
Pilot - Flight of the Phoenix
3. Sam Shepard
Right Stuff - Pilot
Swordfish - Senator (not real)
Days of Heaven - Farmer
HELP!
Good guesses, Raggedy. The only role close to an "airport executive" I could come up with was Stanley Tucci in The Terminal, and I can't find any of the other roles for him. (I can't really imagine Stanley Tucci, who seems so urban, playing a farmer.)
It is stretching to say an executive, although he is one. OK, here are two great hints. 90% of this actor's work is in television where there is a deep presence.
THe airport exec, is actually an exec in the airport controller's office. He's addicted to his job.
Burt Lancaster had a VIP job in Airport, but I can't see him as a farmer either.
I wonder if the real-life Senator is from ancient times.
Paging Loislane.
Lloyd Bridges:
"Tucker" (real-life senator)
"Hot Shots" (pilot)
"Abilene Town" (farmer)
"Airplane" (airport exec)
Ooooh. You heard me Loislane.

And now I think I know who it is. I'll be back.
Oops. Wandeljw beat me to it. (lol)
Wandeljw scored big time with who'd'athunk...Lloyd Bridges. Two hints within the hints:
Deep--His long starring role in Sea Hunt as a skin diver (ok, kinda obscure) and his "addictions" in Airplane--"I guess I picked a bad day to quit cigarettes, booze etc."
I did have a slightly different farmer--he played Kate Hepburn's brother and farmer in Rainmaker with Burt Lancaster.
Wandeljw--the question's in your court!
raggedy,
if i am correct, could you take my turn? (it looks like i may be out of town this weekend.) anyway, i was given a free turn at least once or twice.
I'd be pleased to Wandeljw. Have a fun weekend.
I've been waiting for Loislane to reply before posting a new question. I just saw that she did - yesterday.
Real-life King
Fictional King
Fictional Sea Captain (twice)
Undercover Detective
Oh, goodie! Something to do tomorrow, while snowbound.
Is this someone we've used before? The only actors I can think of who fit any of the roles are repeats.
Rex Harrison - fictional sea captain in The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, and king (not sure if he was real-life or fictional) in Anna and the King of Siam
Gregory Peck - fictional sea captain in Captain Horatio Hornblower R.N. and Moby Dick (and his character was undercover in Gentleman's Agreement, although it might be stretching things to call him an undercover detective)
Burt Lancaster - fictional sea captain in His Majesty O'Keefe
A clue, please?
I don't think we've used this actor before.
I'm glad you asked for a clue. I need a break from this football game. t's really robbin' me of all congeniality. It doesn't look like there's going to be any happily-ever-aftering in Pittsburgh, Pa. tonight.
There are obviously a bunch of clues embedded in your post -- but, unfortunately, none of them is helping me very much.
If this person has played a king, I think we can rule out female performers, so the "congeniality" clue doesn't lead us to Sandra Bullock in Miss Congeniality. And we've used Michael Caine, who co-starred in that movie, before, and besides I don't think he's ever played a king (unless you count Peachy in The Man Who Would Be King).
"Robbin'" could be a reference to Robin Hood, but we've used both Errol Flynn and Sean Connery before, and they don't fit, anyway -- or it could refer to Robin in the Batman movies, but Chris O'Donnell hasn't played any of the roles in question.
And when I hear the phrase "happily ever after", all I can think of is the song from "Once Upon a Mattress", which makes it hard to think in terms of movies.
I'm fed up with this game (the football game, that is, not the movie game), so I'm going to flip over to Masterpiece Theater. Maybe this will be clearer to me in the morning.
You've got one of the correct Robins. But, I agree Masterpiece Theater is probably a more congenial spot. For happily-ever-aftering that is.
Have you looked at the book title game recently?
Ah, no wonder I was confused! I grew up listening to the original Broadway cast album of Camelot, so I can't think of anyone but Richard Burton as King Arthur, even though I know the part was played in the movie version by --
Richard Harris
Real-life King - Robin and Marian (as King Richard) (also King of the Wind, as King George II)
Fictional King - Camelot (as King Arthur)
Fictional Sea Captain - Hawaii, Wrestling Ernest Hemingway, and Orca
Undercover Detective - The Molly Maguires
I may not be online again until tomorrow afternoon, so if wandeljw wants to take the turn he skipped on Friday, and start a new question in my place (if I'm right about Richard Harris), that would be OK with me.
You are absolutely correct on all counts, with the addition of "King of the Wind" which didn't occur to me. I wasn't sure whether he was a "Captain" in "Wrestling Ernest Hemingway" and then forgot about it. I mentioned the book title game because I had posted "King Arthur: The Truth Behind the Legend by Rodney Castleden."
And I agree about Burton.
Stay warm.
Question is open if anyone is interested.
