Actually, I did think that I might be stretching the definition of writer just a bit.

Just checking your recollection ability, Bree. Laughing Personally, I prefer Dillinger.

Dreyfuss was also an attorney (Public Defender) in "Nuts" with Streisand. I never thought of Night Falls On Manhattan.

Strangely, there's an actress who has played many of the same types of roles for which Julie Andrews was the answer in mac's question. (In fact, until Raggedy came up with the correct answer, I was sure I had it, and was trying to find movies in which this actress had played a secretary and a German spy.) So let's see if you can identify the actress who has played:

Queen (twice - although I should mention that one of the two movies is pretty obscure)
Psychiatrist
Real-life actress
Real-life poet

Good question, Bree. When you say "obscure", I know it's going to be a tough one. (lol) Thinking.

It occurs to me that I should have specified that this actress has played two real-life queens -- actual historical monarchs, not like the fictional characters Julie Andrews played in The Princess Diaries and Shrek. I hope that helps.

Another theater casting note: Harvey Fierstein is going to replace Alfred Molina as Tevye in the Broadway revival of Fiddler on the Roof in January. Should be interesting.

Waving goodnight now -- I'll check in in the morning.

I've got lots of actresses for the "queens", and one that fits three categories, but where, oh, where is the "poet"? I'm assuming the real-life poet's name is used in the movie. I haven't given up yet.

And back to "synchronicity/non", I mentioned earlier that I heard a different version of Blue Moon on the Rogers special - well, it's on TCM right now. The movie is Manhattan Melodrama with Clark Gable. Shocked

See you all in the A.M.

Excellent news about Harvey Fierstein. I once saw a PBS (?) special where he sang Do You Love Me? with a woman whose name I can't recall. But they reversed the parts and he sang Golde's lines. It was hilarious.

The real-life poet's name is not only used in the movie, it (or part of it) is used in the title of the movie.

And a word from the title of her best-known poem was used in my previous post.

Glenda Jackson - She was one of the first actresses that came to mind, but as I knew nothing about "Stevie", I bypassed her. I've not seen any of these films and now, having read about them, I would like to see them all.

Nobody heard him, the dead man,
But still he lay moaning:
I was much further out than you thought
And not waving but drowning.

Queen - King of the Wind (Caroline); Mary Queen of Scots (Elizabeth I)
Psychiatrist - Beyond Therapy
Real-life actress - Sarah (Bernhardt)
Poet - Stevie - Stevie Smith

Good question, Bree. Very Happy

Glad you liked it! I saw Stevie when it first came out, and I remember enjoying it then. I wouldn't mind seeing it again, to see how it holds up.

Over to you --
