I saw the film version of A Little Night Music and was very disappointed and think you would be, too. The Miller's Son wasn't in the movie, Bree. And IMDB doesn't list Liaisons, either. I'll have to dig the record out. Hermione Gingold and Len Cariou were in the movie with Elizabeth Taylor, and it got an Oscar for Best Music Adaptation, but I think it was a bomb.

However, I saw a great TV production of the show (I think it was PBS around 1990) with?

Sally Anne Howes as Desiree Armfeldt (I've always liked her)
Kevin Anderson .... Henrik
George Lee Andrews .... Frederik
Beverly Lambert .... Anne
Michael Maguire .... Count Carl Magnus
Maureen Moore .... Charlotte Magnus
Regina Resnik .... Mme. Arnfeldt

I taped it at the time and it's in my collection - somewhere. You've put me in the mood for watching it again.

Just thought of one:

Oldie

Existence in an iniquitous setting.

Life Upon the Wicked Stage from Show Boat is correct. Why the question mark? Very Happy

I was pretty sure it was the one you were thinking of, but I thought there might be another song that also fit the bill!

As I said on the "Twenty Questions" thread (we're now cross-referencing our threads!), I'll be away from the computer for most of the rest of the day. I'll come back with another song when I can.

Have fun, Bree.

(and as for cross-referencing, I thought you might pick up on 20 qs from Irish book titles. (lol)

It did cross my mind that you might have been sending a subtle hint with those titles. Talk about mind meld!

Here's one to think about while you're cavorting in the lane. (No, that's not a hint)

Oldie - A movie that featured approximately 8 standards, one of them being:

All motion has its own interpretation.

That sounds like "Every Little Movement Has a Meaning All Its Own", but I don't know what movie it's from.

I only know the song from the "Julie and Carol at Carnegie Hall" album (the live recording of a concert Julie Andrews and Carol Burnett gave at Carnegie Hall in 1962). Do you know it? They do a medley called "A History of Musical Comedy" that begins with "Every Little Movement" and ends with "I Have a Love", from West Side Story. It's hilarious.

You got it, Bree. I have seen sketches from the Julie and Carol show on TV specials. Funny!

"Every Little Movement " was in the Doris Day, Gordon MacRae movie, "On Moonlight Bay", 1951. It also featured "Cuddle Up a Little Closer", "Pack Up Your Troubles", "Till We Meet Again", et al. (WWI songs). It was adapted from Booth Tarkington stories. Three years later the same stars appeared in "By the Light of the Silvery Moon".

I have an appointment an hour from now and won't be back until after 2PM, so I won't ask another one at this time.

Oh, I just found out what HBDTY means. It's A2K's Birthday. Two full years. WOW. Seems like only yesterday.

Thanks for figuring that out about HBDTY -- I would have been wondering what it meant!

I think I may have to resort to m-w to figure out your song title!

In the meantime, did you see that Gerard Souzay died yesterday? There's an obituary in the Times this morning. I don't think I have any of his recordings (and I definitely never saw him perform in person). I'll have to see if I can find any at the library.

I've just listened to some excerpts from his CD (at Amazon), Bree. This is the first time I've heard him. Beautiful. I think I'll buy that CD. Do you have the link to the obituary?

I haven't forgotten about your song. I've been looking for a movie song about "lost sheep", but haven't found anything yet.

It 'sounds' to me like you've got the wrong ruminants in mind. However, you're on the right track, so don't butt your head against the wall.

I'm going to think about your ruminants while I take a walk and have lunch. Maybe I'll actually see one of the animals you're talking about while I'm out (although that would be an amazing display of noncausal synchronicity, considering that I'll be walking around Greenwich Village).
