Pinnochio?
The Little Mermaid?
Actually I think in the past that I've revealed the answer after three clues but here's a final one that may give it away:
It's a 90's film and is very trying for the captain.
hmmm. I guess you've revealed it to whomever has seen it, L.W., but I think the problem is that none of us has seen it.
But here's a guess:
White Squall?
That's a shame -- a really great coming-of-age film with a spectacular storm sequence and dynamite central performance (again) by Jeff Bridges and perfectly paced direction by Ridley Scott.

Wrong link, Lightwizard.
It leads to "In America", directed by Jim Sheridan.
LW: Your link took me to "In America" directed by Jim Sheridan. Is that the answer?
That link was for the LOTR thread on surmising what might be ROTK's competition for the Oscar. I guess my copy didn't replace the link:
WHITE SQUALL
raggedy guessed white squall
Oh. I guessed White Squall, above. - finally (lol).
Way to go, Raggedy! It looks like you got it an hour before Lightwizard posted his link. And I'm so relieved to hear it wasn't In America, because I saw that movie last week, and I didn't remember any scene like the one Lightwizard described. I know my memory is going fast, but I like to think I still retain some shreds of it.
Newbie
A man and woman take the man's dog for a walk in the park. The woman throws a ball and the man and dog chase after it, when suddenly the man falls to the ground on his back. Terrified, the woman runs to him, bending over him, asking him to speak to her. And then, he sits up straight laughing uproariously. She is furious. She tells him it's no laughing matter - that's how her father died.
Bree: I know what you mean.
AAAAARRRRRR, I've actually seen this! AAAARRR!
Yes, Fealola. Fatal Attraction is the answer. That was TOO fast.
NEWIE
She's at work and it's so hot she strips down to her underwear. She convinces the rest to do it too, except for one.
Newbie:
When his fathers' casket was lost, he spent three days in the airport waiting for it to be found.
