Two cleansings for the price of one!

I don't fart a lot with chili, but the afterburn is a tad nasty.

I totally agree with Sozobe - go neti. It's a little weird the first time, but you'll get it.

You're right about the cold medicines. They suppress the symptoms, and the symptoms are how your body is trying to heal itself. I've seen a lot of studies that show when people avoid the suppressant medicines actually get better faster. You're probably just run down from doing the mommy/job juggle and the best thing for you would be a cuppa mint tea followed by a nice long snooze.

I finally joined the saline brigade in November - and what a difference.

I hate it, but it works.

<shudders>

It does work. I found that it took about 3 applications over an evening to start noticing a difference. I still can't believe the difference.

Well, I did numerous nasal cleanings and nothing happened...then at 4am this morning I woke up to searing pain in the left side of my face.

I officially have a sinus infection.

I am headed to the doctor for evaluation.

Sinus infection.

On antibiotics, fluids and decongentant.

Upsets my stomach and I took it with food.

But I guess it's better than a throbbing head.

Still feelin for ya Bella. It's hard enough having a baby to care for, along with work, so I'm sending you more hugs and hopes that you recover ASAP!

don't feel much different. The nostril is still plugged up. In fact, instead of the water coming out my other nostril when I shot it up the good one, it came out my mouth.

IT'S SUPPOSED TO COME OUT OF YOUR MOUTH !
(you can always rinse your mouth with salt-water thereafter)

the idea is to clean all your nasal cavities completely - it may require several applications before it starts working .
you may have to hold your head first to one side and next to the other while you are squirting PLENTY of the solution into your nose VERY GENTLY - DO NOT FORCE !!!.

do it over the sink and move your head slowly : left - right - left ... you'll get the idea .

it's really not much different than brushing your teeth thoroughly every day - it'll become routine !

BUT DO NOT !!! HOLD YOUR HAD BACK WHEN SQUIRTING !!!

i used to suffer from very nasty sinus-infections before someone put me on the saline solution .
i passed the recipe on to the head of our ENT-clinic at our local hotel-dieu hospital and they now hand a copy to every patient with sinus problems .

i;ll try to find a copy and post it .

i also always have some HYDRASENSE (you'll have to google for it - url did not work) on hand for a quick squirt - particularly when travelling .

make sure you do not add an ear-infection to your troubles !
i use BUROSOL otic solution to prevent any secondary ear-infections .
GOOD LUCK and KEEP SNORTING !!!

ADVICE FROM THE MAYO CLINC
-------------------------------------
Quote:
Treatment
Many cases of sinusitis will subside without the need for antibiotics. Self-care techniques may speed along recovery.

If your doctor suspects you have a bacterial infection, he or she may prescribe a course of antibiotics such as amoxicillin (Amoxil, Trimox), doxycycline (Doryx, Monodox) or the combination drug trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (Bactrim, Septra). If the infection doesn't subside or if the sinusitis is recurrent, a different antibiotic may be warranted.

Your doctor may also recommend other treatment methods, depending on the underlying cause of the sinusitis. These include:

Treating an underlying allergic condition that contributes to sinusitis
Using prescription decongestants, nasal corticosteroid spray or oral corticosteroid pills to relieve stuffiness
Taking over-the-counter decongestants or pain relievers
Spraying a saline solution in your nose several times a day

Hey Bella, how's it going?

One more thing I wanted to get in here -- saline rocks when it comes to cleaning out mucus, but if your problem is swelling of the nasal passages, it doesn't do much. Sozlet has that sometimes, when she gets stuffy but it's more about swelling than snot.

Hope you're feeling better...!

Yup I had swelling and NOW I have mucus.

I feel a lot better but my one tooth still gives me zingers when I lay down too fast or I run (feet hitting harder jaring my face).

I still have 5 days worth of antibiotics so I am being patient.

Ooh, I know just what you mean.

Sorry I didn't make the snot/swelling distinction before. If snot's the issue now though, saline can help you feel a lot better. (With the sore teeth and all.)

Get well soon!
