Embarrassed
Sorry.

I had an intrusion last night of the Mother in Law kind Rolling Eyes

So far, I have tried a few things..
* because it was still leaking

I tried tightening up the pipe..
Repositioning it , thinking it wasnt getting enough thread to create a seal

then.. I tried turning the seal upside down.

I think I put it in wrong..
So far, not a leak in about 9 hours. But then again, that was over night.
So lets see what happens today.

And I have noticed that the smell is gone?

Very Happy

You did exactly what the pros would have done, Tightening, repositioning and flipping the washer over and you have a real understanding of how this kind of pipe works now. (pat yourself on the back!!!)

This method of pipe connection is called a "slip joint" because it slips back and forth. I thought it might also be like a "compression joint".

http://www.hammerzone.com/archives/kitchen/sink/stainless/drain.htm

Here is a compression joint. It compresses the washer but you can see it does not slide.

http://www.diyfixit.co.uk/diy/centralheating/leaks/compression_joint.jpg

Now that your sink is out of surgery you can move on to preventative treatment.

Only there is one thing....I wonder if you really have the washer the right way???? .........Is it leaking?.....No....Then the hell with it. This is called Mexican plumbing.

Washers are upside down in the fanciest homes in America.

P.S. It is better to know wich way the washer goes. You have over 50% of having it right because it is not leaking.

Next lesson: Installing a facet. Women can put a new shinny facet in there old bathroom for the price of a cheap facet. 20$!!!!!!!

Oh JOY!

Done it . Cool

Re-shingled a roof . Done it.
Mechanical work on a car Done it
Replaced windows Done it
Replaced a toilet Done it.
Remove carpeting Done it
Repair Drywall Done it
Cabinets Done it ( sort of..)
Replaced doors, sinks, shower heads, changed tires, batteries, starters, mufflers, ( yes those auto parts are plural.)

My very first car was a 1972 Pontiac Catalina.
I was the only reason that thing ran.
It was a basic 440 engine that was easy to reach, easy to fix and in the late 80's, the parts were everywhere I needed them to be for cheap.

When I say that hubby and home improvement doesn't mix in this house it is because I am a bit obsessive about small repairs and insist on doing it myself until even a life ring doesn't stop me from drowning.. And then all I do is ask for a wrench..

I think I understand...

You do all this in the nude, right.

I have to say that I would stand back and watch as well........

(while handing you wrenches, of course)
