@ehBeth,
I'll be thinking about you Saturday nite, bethie! Break a leg! (or maybe a hip?)

@mac11,
well, i've been to my fancy dutch gym for four times now, and things are looking up. the first two times i came home after a class, back of my neck hurt like hell (from ab crunches = pathetic) and i had a headache that parallels a migraine. today was ok. i did body jam, body pump and even ran 4km after that... was trying to see if i could run a 7.5 km race in two weeks. I guess i could. i seem to be ok muscle-wise (except for lower and upper back, but oh well), i just need to improve my cardio (it did shoot up to over 180 a few times...perhaps a tad high that is.
discovered a body combat class, did that on tuesday. love love love. that's the first time since i moved here i was truly excited and actually genuinely happy. unlike yoga, which made me rather angry in the obnoxious meditation part...trying to tell me what i see and how i feel. gah. don't think so, missy!

@dagmaraka,
Dag,
Don't touch your head while doing crunchs. Hold yr hands by your ears, but no touching. You can also thrust yr hands forward past your knees, but again, no touching the body with your hands.

What kind of yoga mediation tells you what you are supposed to be seeing? None that I have ever heard of. (Please tell me they were not doing that "picture yourself on a lonely beach" stuff.) That's not meditation.

@dagmaraka,
Go dag!

Ran today, the slow version. Poor Trackmom was hurting -- she had two intense workouts on off days and the one yesterday really made her sore. Plus something was being set up at the track, so we stopped after four laps. (Walked two, ran one, walked one, ran two in a row, walked one, ran what was planned to be two in a row but stopped after one.) (Just us, no newbie, who's having a problem with her ankle.)

@Joe Nation,
yes, it was 'picture yourself' type of meditation.... when they told us to think of a person, place, or a thing that makes us happy, i got really angry. they really shouldn't be doing this when they don't know who's in the group. needless to say i burst into tears (silently, for i have decorum) as i have a lot on my plate lately...but it was still highly unprofessional of them to do a meditation not having the first clue about it....aaanyway, i digress.

it's not the technique of crunches, it was my general hiatus that led to a sore neck. for almost 2 months i have not exercised in any regulated manner, what with the moving, which was preceded by a long nasty flu of some sort... so i was fully out of shape. i am now finding out that it's mostly my back and neck that got weak, the rest seems to be quite alright. i'll catch up soon though.

@dagmaraka,
Too late to register for the 7.5km. I tried.... But I'll train anyway.

@dagmaraka,
Oh boy......shin splints, inability to afford new shoes (recently rectified) and a few weeks of one after another steenking virus......and I am FINALLY able to start walking again...did a 55 min walk to meet a friend for a film and dinner.

I'm way slow....but no goddam splints! I paid more for these shoes, and I really like them so far.

@dlowan,
That's good news, dlowan! Glad the new shoes are working out. I'm irrationally fond of mine. Best running shoes I remember owning. (No serious shin splints since I got them -- sometimes I can tell I'm overdoing it but then feel better after a couple of days' rest.) (Knock on wood.)

@sozobe,
By the way -- and this is another one for the "knock on wood" file -- I haven't gotten sick since I started seriously working out (last February or so). I usually get some sort of virusy crud at fairly frequent intervals. ID'ing some of it as asthma has helped (throw meds at it right away, to good effect), but I think my immune system has gotten a boost, too. It's REALLY unusual that I haven't gotten sick in this summer-into-fall transition. Yet. Knock on wood.

@sozobe,
Knock indeed. I'll be curious to see how I do over the upcoming Winter. I've had a few bouts of very slightly swollen tonsils, but I can get those even if I've just been up late the previous evening. But nothing that feels like an illness coming on.

I think we'll frisbee today. It looks to be a very nice day -- we won't have too many more of them where we'll also be able to get out while it's still light.

PS My aim is improving! Smile

@jespah,
i might need new sneakers, too. i bought mine in march, but was a cheapskate and bough a whatever kind of sneakers and they're not comfy, never were.

ran 5km today. no stopping, no problems, except now i'm sore (also from 2 days ago from the 3 hour workout) so that i can only walk in a bent-forward fashion. rather comical, fortunately i'm alone.

@mac11,
until the photos from someone else's camera make it down the pipeline ... here's the only evidence that I went to the gala (the evidence I performed is on my still-dirty feet)

(this is also evidence that I managed to paint on eyebrows and glue on false eyelashes - which aren't fitness goals, but helped me achieve the performance part of the goal)

@ehBeth,
putting on fake eyelashes can be quite a workout in and of itself. I came to love them during my theatre times. dunno why, liked their weight on my eyes.

yeah, i have sensory issues.

@dagmaraka,
The only photos we could take of one of my dancemates were of the side of her face where I installed her false eyelashes. The other side ... more glue than eyelashes ... and she glued them up so high that the eyeliner AND eyeshadow had to be applied on top of the eyelashes.

@ehBeth,
yeah, the first time they seem impossible. it does get easy though... but there's only one kind of glue that works well. Dual, i think it was called. all else is crap.

but even dual was not enough to hold the pasties in place... but i digress.

still walking bent-over today....but ready to run more tomorrow.

@ehBeth,
Nice arty angle on that self-portrait, bethie! Very Happy

I hope you had fun.

I've glued a lot of lashes on others, but never wore them myself.

@mac11,
I haven't had the false eyelashes experience. Hmm.

Lots of walking yesterday -- to Harvard Sq from Central Sq and then the return trip was from BC to home (took different buses and, therefore, different routes). Great to be walking; on the return trip, we saw this guy, with a squirrel in his talon (sorry, JPB):

@dagmaraka,
Pasties. That gives me an idea. Not the idea you are thinking of.
More later about that.
Miles so far this year: 779.9 Yuh. I couldn't just go another tenth could I?
